Default A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection

With news of the Friday the 13th set courtesy of Scream Factory, I'm going to begin my endless hoping beyond hope that Warner Bros licenses out these titles so we can get a proper box set compared to the existing (and, imo, underwhelming) Blu-Ray release.

My only true complaint about the existing NOES box set? The Dream Master is a bit too dark. Oddly enough, the DVD transfer was too bright.

Sure, never before seen deleted scenes and/or new commentary tracks would be nice. I would only buy this set again if it were reasonably priced and had a better transfer of The Dream Master.

The imagery of the NIGHTMARE series is so rich that I wish the box set would look like some of Arrow's more impressive collections, like THE SCARLETT BOX or PHANTASM.

As far as my "wish" specs go:
• new 4K transfers when possible
• Freddy's Dead 3D ending via seamless branching
• Freddy's Nightmares and Never Sleep Again included
• all previously released bonus feature and unreleased stuff like The Making Of New Nightmare hosted by Craven, etc

Here's a couple of pics from my custom box set, using digipaks.

Thank you, but I can't take full credit for the art itself. Although I modified it a lot, it was existing artwork from artist Mike Saputo (who designed the vinyl collection re-release called The Box of Souls)

Whoa, these custom covers are fantastic! If a potential Scream Factory release looked anything like this, and had these special features, I'd be over the moon.

I would also hope they'd license the complete Never Sleep Again Documentary. I'd hope they'd get commentaries on the sequels as well. There's so much they could do. The fact that several of the Friday the 13th films are New Line owned gives me hope they'd cooperate for Nightmare too.

I do think though, that a 4K release of the original film might be something that WB might want to keep for themselves. But heck, I'd buy that too.

Anyways, if it happens, I hope they don't wait til Nightmare's 40th anniversary.

I'd buy the hell out of that set. I haven't bought the first set but I've been rewatching them on HBOMax. Who knows how long they'll last on there.

Fantastic job.

I'd love a new set. If they can't get Freddy's Nightmares in HD they can still stuff a whole season onto a Blu-ray disc.

My copy of the Warner BD collection has a defective Disc 1 (keeps skipping around the middle of the film) so I really could use a new set. Or at the least a nice upgrade of the first film.

Those cases are seriously beautiful. I would LOVE a set like that. While I do have those burned/bootleg DVDs of Freddy's Nightmares and all the stuff that never released on DVD/Blu-Ray, I wholeheartedly welcome an updated set to include new transfers and all the extras not included on the last Blu set, plus anything extra that can be made or found in the vaults.

My wish list for the ULTIMATE ANOES 4K UHD set would be similar to how Paramount have reissued the Godfather movies - you upgrade the films with new features but include all the material from the previous releases as well:
  • 4K scan of all the movies with HDR and or Dolby Vision.
  • Original Mono, Stereo and Surround tracks along with new Dolby Atmos tracks (which the elements are out there as the films were remixed in Dolby 5.1 in the 1990's).
  • All bonus features from the New Line Cinema 1999 DVD set.
  • All commentary tracks released on the 1999 set.
  • A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) and A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) in their indented UNRATED forms. The film elements should still be around as Part 1 has been reissued and remastered Unrated a few times (on VHS and Laserdisc). Part 5 was released uncut on both Laserdisc and VHS around the world.
  • The original deleted scenes from ANOES 1 featured only on the Elite Entertainment Laserdisc where Nancy learns that she wasn't "always an only child"

  • The complete Freddy's Nightmare's series. If we're talking about a dream (excuse the pun) budget, Warner could go back to the original 16mm film negatives and do a proper 4K upgrade. Some 1980's video effects in SD (I'm thinking about the Freddy vision scenes in No More Mr. Nice Guy) may have to either be edited in or redone.
  • Including the remake would also make sense.
  • Including the documentaries: Elm Street U.S.A.: The Making of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Never Sleep Again, I Am Nancy and Scream, Queen! My Nightmare On Elm Street

Currently, there are commentary tracks for the 1984 original, Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994), and Freddy vs Jason (2003).

Parts 2-6 and the 2010 remake do not have commentary tracks so that would be a necessity for me. I'd try to get:

2: Freddy's Revenge - Jack Sholder, Mark Patton, Robert Englund, Kim Myers, Robert Rusler

3: Dream Warriors - Chuck Russell, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp (Patricia Arquette would never participate)

4: The Dream Master - Renny Harlin, Robert Englund, Lisa Wilcox, Tuesday Knight

5: The Dream Child - Stephen Hopkins, Robert Englund, Lisa Wilcox

6: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare - Rachel Talalay, Robert Englund, Lisa Zane

2010 remake - Samuel Bayer, Jackie Earle Haley, Katie Cassidy (You'd never get Rooney Mara. She hates the film and her experience working on it.)

Also the deleted scenes from "The Dream Master" New Line had Harlin film to purposely get targeted by the MPAA and deleted from the film to protect whatever sequences they would have gone after (I'm presuming Shaye and Harlin figured early on that Debbie's death in the film would bug [no pun intended] some people in the MPAA and needed the most protecting).

One that would be fun for the 2010 one is a sole commentary with Thomas Dekker where he goes off on everything that went wrong with the shoot from preproduction to post.

Commentary tracks would be interesting for the sequels that have never had one. Proper uhds and not just 4k remastered blus would probably be ideal, though a nice remastered blu set like the Friday the 13th from SF would also be great.

I just want part 4 to be a tad lighter. The DVD was too light, and the existing Blu-ray is too dark.

I bet Depp would do at least an interview. He said he would have done New Nightmare, but everyone (wrongly) assumed he wouldn't do it, so no one asked. I have a feeling it's the same situation with some kind of special edition (maybe a 4k?) of the first film.

Warner doesn't flat out own Freddy's Nightmares

as far as the deleted scenes and the unrated part 5 I know (or maybe I should say knew since I haven't talked to him in a few years) someone who worked on the Nightmare set and they searched for the material and the time they spent searching all the vaults they couldn't locate the material
