Default Can someone explain what reference level means?

I hear this term bantered around quite a lot but have no idea what it really means.....I have even asked people right after they posts and they they do not even know.....so what is "reference level" referring to and what exactly is it...

It's the volume source material is recorded at in the studio or performance..Hope this helps

it's the ratio of onanism to pixel clarity.

Usually 0.0 db on your receiver is reference lvl, although other circumstances come into play too.
