I’ve been building my digital library after buying a few movies and seeing that the Extras actually mirror the physical copies. The one hang up to buying digital vs physical was that the extras are the sweetener that add value to just buying the movie itself.
But some movies it seems have incomplete features. For example: The 6-film Middle Earth Extended Edition collection has the full boat of extras for the first three Hobbit films and then Two Towers - so everything that’s listed with the physical copies (i.e. the Appendices and documentaries within them) . But Fellowship and ROTK both have 3 features from within The Appendices and nothing else. The same thing happened with The Matrix Trilogy, which has the first portion of a larger library of features for the third film but not every single one. Does iTunes every update the special features or is this just a case of them grabbing a few and calling it good? |

It is up to the studio/distributor to include or update titles with iTunes Extras. The studios/distributors also determine what to include. Arrow chose to include all the extras for the Ringu films with just the first film. Universal has removed extras from titles.

Just a note, but the extras on The Two Towers extended were only recently added in recent months. I’m sure we‘ll get the full onslaught soon if not by the time that the 4K versions roll out next year.

The Two Towers Extended has had extras for a long time but more were added in that recent update.

I don't think any of The Hobbit movies have all the Extras. As cmcclure16 says Two Towers got the fun load recently - no one knows why WB started there or when the next update will be. The three Matrix movies all have extras in the Irish Store. It was just a selection of behind the scenes shorts for ages but the first movie got update to match the disc releases. Reloaded got updated too but I don't know if it has them all. Still waiting for Revlutions to get more. As steve_dave points out - it is up to the distributor to add/update them. |
