Does anyone have this unit hooked up to the Onkyo TX-SR806? I just read a review on crutchfield.com and it said that with the newest firmware upgrade that he did not get any video if he ran it through the receiver. You would have to run it to the tv to get any video at all.

I received this unit on Friday from Vanns.com. So far it has perfomed flawlessly. It is on sale at Vanns.com for $279.99 and that includes shipping. I was a little worried on how it would play standard dvd's and so far it has been outstanding. However there really isn't a noticeable differnce between the 24 and the 60fps settings when playing standard dvd's. So far I have watched Terminator 2 and Why did I get married.(both standard dvd) and Punisher: War Zone in blu ray. Sound is much richer than my PS3 since you can bitstream the hi def audio codecs. My system is as follows: Sony KDS50A3000, Onkyo TX SR806, Sony PS3, Panasonc DMP-BD60K, Klipsch VR35 front speakers, Klipsch Synergy series center and surround speakers, Polk R150 surround back speakers, Marantz CC4001 cd changer, Velodyne DLS3750 sub, and a Monster 1000mkII surge protector. One question that I do have is where is the 1.5 firmware upgrade for the DMP-BD60K? It is not on the Panasonic website and according to their customer service they do not know of any firmware upgrade for this unit. Can someone help?

i dunno. try checking the avs forums. they had a list for onk firmware updates they may have one for the panny players. im looking forward to getting mine. so your not worried anymore? have you tried 3:10 to yuma? also, i would think if the player was hooked up via ethernet, it would automatically update the player when needed? or maybe select update? or perhaps they took it off to fix any issues. |

I called Panasonic this morning about the firmware upgrade for this unit. They said that the firmware upgrade on the global website is NOT for the US models. Now I know why when I tried to burn it myself off of the global website it did not work.

I have the BD55 unit and used this website to check for firmware upgrades.
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/bd/index.html In it, it does list a firmware upgrade for the BD60 unit and it is version 1.5. It was released back on March 25th with a description for "BD-V Playability". It also listed the upgrade as for North America regions as well. Last edited by ShyBoy; 04-13-2009 at 10:43 PM. |

95% of the time you know more about the product you bought than the CSR you call...

I agree but in this case I think the CSR is correct. I have the DMP BD35 and every time I did a firmware upgrade with that unit it was on the US website as well as the global website. If you go to the US website now I GUARANTEE YOU THAT THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE IS NOT THERE! Like I said before anyone that purchases this unit in this country should not have any issues with it being 1.1 instead of 1.5.

Anyway, if you have the BD60 connected to a broadband internet connection you can check the status of the BD60's firmware against what is currently available. Just go into setup and scroll down to "other" and select "firmware upgrade" and then "check firmware". If there is a newer version available it will display the version and web site to get it. The on screen display states that the firmware can be downloaded over the broadband connection but i could not get that to happen- had to do the old fashion way -download and burn. |

I received my BD60 from Buy.com this past week. It has basically the same features as the BD35 with the addition of a USB port which can read jpeg and mp3 files from a thumb drive. No mention in the specs of being able to read video files from the thumb drive but you can always use the SD card for that. The BD35 and BD60 remotes are almost identical save a couple of buttons and one of those is only labeled differently. I already had a BD 35 and liked it really well. Very good reproduction of DVDs upscaled on HDMI, and great reproduction of some test video challenging the unit's uprezzing of DVD video. BD video is outstanding on HDMI - yet to try it over the component outputs. I had it in less than a week after ordering. Already updated 1.1 firmware to 1.5, but it only applies to some of the features I probably won't use. So far, no BD disk problems. Buy.com has the BD 60 for $260 including shipping (search DMP-BD60 on their site).

finally got mine today. i swear i was the last stop. i almost freaked out concerning the hdmi video issue with onkyo receivers (if there is one). i feel the menu is a bit tricky and it wouldnt let me change the hdmi resolution and i couldnt understand why. so i selected hdmi and the screen went black. then i 'guessed' the menu and selected hdmi video to off and it came back (component was also hooked up through redceiver to output via hdmi). only then i was able to select the resolution of the hdmi out and select hdmi video back to on. all is well now and disconnected component. hevent been able to do much else since ups delivered right before bedtime
![]() think i must add that my rptv only goes up to 1080i. thats the reason i had issues with video at first. otherwise im sure it would have showed a pic Last edited by un4gvn94538; 04-15-2009 at 03:39 AM. |

any one watch youtube vids? with my setup the video is normally 4:3 when its playing but when i click on it to enlarge it, it becomes distorted. cant find any tweaks on the player, tv modes wont work (hdmi), and nothing on the receiver will affect it. in the network settings on the player, there is a setting to make the entire image smaller but it doesnt affect the video.

id thought id let people know that there is a confirmed issue with onkyo receivers (and integra apparently) and this player when it comes to 24p capability. with this setting on, it interferes with 7.1 audio playback from 7.1 pcm discs only. with the setting off, the audio is fine. its being looked into.
on a side note: the player checked for the firmware and found the update. worked fine. |
