Default Getting an HDTV; need help!

I am new here. I have a quick question. I had my heart set on a Samsung 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV
Model: LN-T4665F. Then I was at my buddy’s parents house and that’s what they have down in their basement. I was really excited until I started watching it. They were watching a preseason football game, and to me it seemed way to blurry to spend over $2500.00 on it. So after seeing it myself I didn’t like it so I thought about getting a different one. I am now thinking about getting the Samsung - 50" 1080p Slim-Depth DLP HDTV
Model: HLT5087S. I would be using my 60 gig PS3 to watch my BD movies. I need to know if this TV w/ my PS3 would be good and what other add ons, such as cables I would need to buy for an awesome 1080P experience for my gaming and movies needs. The problem is that I have my PS3 already (and have had it since February) but no HDTV yet. I don’t want to spend more than $2000.00-$2500.00 on the TV AFTER tax, and it HAS to be in 1080P. I have my heart set on the DLP listed above, so I would hope that you guys can stick to that with ideas to make it better. Thanks!

If you have a lot of money have it ISF calibrated. Ask around the home theater section of a best buy.

If you don't have a lot of money buy a dvd or bd that will help you do it yourself .

If you're completely broke, then wing it. Make sure the faces don't look orange, the white letters aren't bleeding into a black background, etc...

If your aren't completely sold on the DLP, a few months back I picked up on of the 55" A2020 model Sony SXRDs for my Pop's setup and it was quite the bargain at about $2K before tax. I almost drove back to the A/V store and bought the 60" out of jealousy. I hear now that the A3000s out soon are what I should have waited on. Prices will fall and deals will be made closer to Christmas if you can hold out a bit longer.

hehe I am waiting. Me and the girlfriend are moving out into a new apartment in Late December, Early January... so that's right when I am buying mine. Do you have a link about the TV you are talking about?

I have another question. Does the Samsung H-LT5076S run in 1080/24p?

Also, what in the heck are the differences between these:

HL-T5089S
HL-T5087S

Sorry for all of the questions.

For the HL-T5076S:

I've looked over the web published specs and the user manual and neither say they accept a 24p input. The display options only show a 60Hz refresh which leads me to believe that IF they accept 24Hz they have to do a 3:2 pulldown to display it.

It might take a call to Samsung or someone here that owns one but it appears to me that you are out of luck with this one.

Yeah, I shoulda waited a few months. I don't think that one will display a 1080/24p natively though. Anyone?

What about the HL-T5087S? It is right around 2000.00 most places that I look. I am just wondering on this one (and sorry, I am quite new to all the new technology in TV's so bear with me...):

For the HL-T5087S:
-10,000:1 contrast Ratio... is this good? at least compared to most sets around the same price? will it pair up good will watching BD on my PS3?
-It also says that it is in "Full HD 1080p." Does this mean 1080/24p? Is there a higher quality than 1080/24P?
-My biggest question of all... is my PS3 a beast enough of a machine to play BD to it's fullest extent? Does it have all the right and necessary hardware/specs to run a BD with an HDTV to blow me away? Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

I am also wondering if I will be able to notice that much of a difference between my cousin's setup and mine. He has an XBOX 360 w/ that HD-DVD add-on hooked up to some 720P 36 inch TV. What I am wondering is if I can watch the same movie he is watching on my 50 inch 1080P TV in Blue-Ray and prove to him that my picture is better. He thinks that he knows everything and that his setup can beat anything that I am getting for my apartment but I want to blow him away. He doesn't really know the difference between 720P and 1080P. I don't know that much ethier, but I thought that when you get a slightly bigger TV than, lets say, a 32 inch, that you can start to tell the difference between a 720P and a 1080P. Thoughts?

But what I am most concerned about is...

Is the Samsung HL-T5087S paired up with my PS3 going to be sweet, or not?

Default LCD and Plasma

I think LCDs have a reputation for blurring fast action. Something still that needs work. You may want to opt for a plasma tv (unless you play a lot of games).

I am just wondering if the combination of my PS3 and the TV listed will be a good combo. I don't want to go bigger because my apartments living room won't be suitable for a TV any bigger.

i was totally in your position a few months ago. consider sony rear projection tvs. cheaper and just as good as plasma/lcd. i did a ton of research before i made the jump. i just bought one reluctantly and i'm pumped on it (60xbr2) cost me 2600. check these tvs out:

sony style

(if you live in southern california, i know an excellent wholesaler that can hook you up...he offers more than just sonys)
