Don’t think I’d buy any of those aside from On the Waterfront, Punch Drunk Love and Ali.

Question 1: Cover Girl.
A Matter of Life and Death is the title that would sparkle the most in 4K, but that Blu already looks stupendous. The domestic release of Cover Girl is a travesty, and it's out of print, to boot. It's time we got the newer restoration here that the UK got. Funnily enough, my favorite film in the Question 1 lineup is His Girl Friday, but I'm 100% satisfied by my Blu of it and am surprised to see it as so many people's picks. I can only assume it's because they love the film so much and not because they think it's in need of a remaster. Question 2: Funny Girl The Muppets Take Manhattan Pal Joey Muppets Take Manhattan and Pal Joey are both out of print and could really pop in UHD. Funny Girl is already (hello) gorgeous on Blu, but I picked it because Sony often creates new supplements for their 4K titles, and Funny Girl is shockingly devoid of meaty content on Blu. Where's the third promotional featurette that focuses on the costumes? Where's the half-hour of deleted scenes and songs? Why no Streisand commentary or at least a lengthy interview with her? I mentioned in Question 3 how appreciative I was that Sony makes new features and that they hopefully would continue that for Funny Girl. I also asked that they bring some of these films to Dolby Cinema for a limited time to promote the upcoming UHD release the way they did for Close Encounters, Lionsgate did for Apocalypse Now, Universal did for Schindler's List, and WB did for Blade Runner and The Wizard of Oz. |
