Non sequitur. Does not compute.

Yes and it is an AVC encode.

I finally received my Australian copy and I think I like the PQ better than my U.S. copy. Yes, it's very very dark in many of the cave scenes but I feel that adds to the disorientation of them being lost in the cave system.

I wouldn’t say it’s up for debate. The Australian edition is broadly considered to offer superior video to the U.S. edition. Way better cover art, too.

Is the Descent 2 also region free?

What I found odd about the Australian copy of The Descent is that even though it's ABC the extras don't play.

Only the Australian release seems to be Region free. It didn't get a US release, only Region A seems to be the Mexican release. Most of the European releases are Region B

That cover art always looked cheesy as hell to me. The girls put together to look like a skull, appealing to teens maybe.

The poster was designed as tribute to the work "In Voluptas Mors" by artist Salvador Dali, and photographer Philippe Halsman. It was also the basis for the face of the moth in the poster for Silence of the Lambs.

Read up on how the photograph was made here:

Hahaha, on the other hand no one said Dali didn't like his Camembert.

Once you have the disc how do you check which version you own?

Wouldn't you just hit your display button?

Little late for reply, but I'd bet the disc is all around region free.
The problem with the extras is they are standard definition, and encoded in PAL format while US things are NTSC. I have the same issue with my Return of the Living Dead UK steelbook. The HD stuff is fine in anything (main feature and main doc), but I can only watch the other extras on my region free player since the RF player does convert PAL to NTSC, my US 4K player does not. PAL plays at a different speed than NTSC which is why NTSC only machines can't handle it.

I'm a little confused with the U.S. Lionsgate release. Which is the better copy, the first pressing with the silver foil inner sleeve or the second pressing?

First pressing (silver foil) with the AVC encode. The 2nd pressing has an MPEG-2 encode and DNR added.

Aren't there MPEGs that still have the silver also? I seem to recall this debate happening before the covers lost the foil. The non-foil ones are like 3rd or 4th pressings IIRC, and you could only tell the first ones apart from watching them with good eyes, or running em through a program that details what is on the disc.

If the display on my Sony 4K player is to be believed, it also says MPEG and the cover is foil. 99% sure that is correct as I know I've seen AVC on the display for other discs.

So there's no way of telling with the foil copies if it's AVC or MPEG without running the disc? There's no info on the back cover art insert?
