when I read Jim Cummings I thought it was the voice actor of Winnie The Pooh in this movie

Looks enjoyable. A fun werewolf flick set in winter with a solid cast including Robert Forster, in his final film role, battling werewolves 40 years after a memorable bout with an alligator. Fitting. Quirky humor and noirish overtones too. I want this on blu.

I watched Jim Cummings' debut film THUNDER ROAD when I discovered it was streaming on Amazon Prime and man, what an oddball flick; a Texas cop with anger management issues essentially having a nervous breakdown in the midst of a divorce and after the death of his mother done as a dramedy. Cummings often runs the gamut of emotions in a single scene - with the camera on him in an unbroken take - that's both impressive and exhausting...much like the film itself.
The opening funeral scene as he awkwardly attempts to eulogize his mother is dramatic, melodramatic and darkly funny in a way that's uncomfortable and yet oddly compelling, which sets the tone for the whole film: Have to admit I'm still not sure what to make of this one. No idea what Cummings will do with a comedic werewolf thriller, but I'm curious to find out...and though I've no idea for certain, after watching that trailer [Show spoiler]

Essentially Thunder Road but with a werewolf. Looks fun as an allegory for alcoholism, but I hope Cummings doesn’t get trapped in a niche, an it does look a tad cheap looking which wasn’t something I had a problem with in Thunder Road.

A friend raved about Thunder Road and I watched the trailer and thought it was supposed to be a comedy. When they told me it's not supposed to be funny at all I was out. I know it got great reviews but it looked so cheesy and stupid to me.
I'm a sucker for werewolf movies though and this looks pretty good. |

I really enjoyed this, it was basically Thunder Road with a werewolf but i liked this a bit more. I found it funnier & i loved the snowy small town setting.

Werewolves are my favorite horror monsters, so I'm always sniffing around for the next lupine film to feast on. This movie did satisfy, yet wasn't what I expected going in (almost) completely blind. It works more as a drama/comedy with the horror elements working more as a backdrop, and the journey to the werewolf mystery is more fascinating than the ultimate conclusion. Still, two claws up from me.
I did not see Thunder Road, but now I want to after seeing this. Jim Cummings was great! |
