Guys I am sure that whatever the outcome of Brexit, UK will not become one of the grey areas here, namely, lacking any kind of inter-agreement and fall out of the EEA altogether. That would be really...unwise, then again... Brexit.

And, unfortunately, the current unpleasantness has led to some people taking the piss and claiming items have been lost when they receive them and suffer buyers' remorse (or just outright decide they'd like a freebie from the start). It's always been a problem but it's certainly increased over the past six months.

Any company that sends items via untracked post is playing a fools game anyway.
Even when I resold some of my old university textbooks from my bedroom I offered 1st class recorded. Sure it was a bit more expensive, but it gave me a lot more protection. |

Which isn't really viable for a lot of items, either for customers or sellers. A standard Bluray with no booklet is £9.35 to the USA tracked and signed, and, curiously, £10.20 just tracked. Once you go over 100g or get into small parcel size it goes up - and many blus are over 100g with packaging.

It's likely to be about rights issues, explains why Second Sight only sends within the UK. |

The deliberate slowdown in the US postal service, problems with Australia (even companies that started shipping again to the UK have stopped again recently while deliveries from the UK can sometimes take 8-10 weeks) and a few other countries that have become problem territories for delivery are probably a factor as well. Theoretically you can claim damages for lost post, but it's a time-consuming process and you have to wait several weeks to get reimbursed, which can bugger up your cashflow if you get a lot of claims.

That only applies to Dawn, I think. I ordered the Texas Chain Saw Massacre steelbook directly from them and got it with no problems.

Often I pay more shipping than for the item itself. Just a few years ago I imported the Canadian release of a Looney Tunes Blu-ray. Originally I imported volume 1 of that, which even included physical goodies and more and it was really heavy, and back then I paid LESS shipping than I had to pay for that 2 disc Blu-ray set without any extras. Absolutely ridiculous. And it's even more ridiculous that I can get tons of items from Asia shipped to my place for way less money. In fact that's even true for Japan. Often I pay less than 1000 Yen, sure that's untracked ground shipping, but I remember a time when this was possible from US to Europe and it was dirt cheap. And normally there is also SAL shipping, which is air mail but very low priority. Takes 2 weeks, but is also dirt cheap. Well I actually import some US-imports from Japan, and it's way less expensive that way. Yes, totally crazy isn't it. Last edited by jimidini; 09-28-2020 at 01:46 PM. |

If I remember correctly, EU was planning to do a tax upfront for all orders outside of EU, with no customs free limit, for all online orders (massive rip off similar to what they did in Australia). I wonder if UK will implement something like that on their own, or not. I hope not. |
