Default JACK AND THE BEANSTALK 70th Anniversary Restoration!

Jack and the Beanstalk Blu-ray

Today is Bud Abbott's birthday and I want to announce a very exciting project.

Production began on July 9, 1951 at the Hal Roach Studios on Bud and Lou's first color feature film. To commemorate the 70th anniversary, I am thrilled to announce a deluxe 70th anniversary restoration of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK!

You will once again have an opportunity to help us with certain aspects of this restoration and more details will be announced very soon. We've already begun work on scanning 35mm archival materials, including the only surviving 35mm color camera negative footage!

This deluxe Blu-ray and DVD will be released next summer by ClassicFlix and will be loaded with outstanding bonus features. We already have A&C expert Ron Palumbo on board to provide another fascinating commentary track. Rest assured, this will truly be THE definitive restoration of the first color Abbott and Costello film.

Fear nothing; if you liked our work on AFRICA SCREAMS, you're going to love our restoration of JACK AND THE BEANSTALK!

Wow, I didn't think this was gonna happen. Definitely not buying VCI's edition now.

I'm all in. I supported the Africa Screams, I'll support this one.

Thanks, it's been in the works since late last year. Covid-19 has delayed many aspects including access to some 35mm elements but we're moving forward and have started work on it!

Absolutely.

Watch for 35mm frame samples in sepia when we launch the campaign!

Can you see that little shadow of a speck in my rear view mirror? That's the VCI copy of this movie.

In Furmanek we trust!

Sadly, Captain Kidd is on by Warner Brothers and I’m not optimistic anything further will be done with it. The Warner Archive DVD release is very poor. The film can look much better!

The response to the teaser announcement on Friday has been overwhelming. I'm fast tracking the Kickstarter campaign and will be filming my video later this week.

Look for it going live - with a sample clip of our proposed restoration - VERY soon!

When I was a kid there was a wonderful elderly woman named Loretta who lived next door to us, she was very much like a grandmother to me, she specifically bought Fudge Round cookies for me for when I came over to visit and I also remember borrowing her VHS tape of Abbott & Costello's Jack in the Beanstalk and watching it multiple times. So really looking forward to getting this on Blu-ray next year!

Exciting news! Not only was the restoration work on Africa Screams tip top, but the bonus features were OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! (My favorite being the restoration of the live presentation of the Rubdown sketch!!!) I am as excited to hear about more bonus features like that as I am to see what Classic Flix does with the movie itself. Now, the question of the day - do I keep my VCI pre-order just to tide me over until this gets released next year? There's no such thing as "too" much Abbott & Costello on Blu-ray, after all!!! Hmm......

After purchasing Africa Screams, which I absolutely adored, I bought The Noose Hangs High, mainly because the trailer that came with Africa Screams was hilarious.
Well today I finally bought the Complete Collection on blu-ray, so another title that will also be restored by Bob and his team is most welcome news, as my Abbot and Costello collection grows more complete each day.
Maybe one day their entire library can be restored with the same care applied to Africa Screams.
