Sony Pictures Monster Hunter 3D Blu-ray (2020) [Region Free] [Germany only]

Monster Hunter received a 3D Blu-ray release in Germany in October 2021. It has been confirmed that the disc is REGION FREE. All other releases worldwide are flat.

Monster Hunter 2D + 3D Blu-ray

Monster Hunter 2D + 3D Blu-ray Steelbook

Original post:
I thought i create a thread for this film since i didn't see one.

So far according to RickStar, he found some credits on the film on IMDB and noticed that Stereo D did the conversion as he found some Stereo D conversion credits on IMDB, and also noticed the name of the stereographer is Nick Brown.

Originally, the film (directed by Paul W.S. Anderson) was set to release on September 4, but then it got pushed back to April 23, 2021.

Teaser Trailer:
Yes, it doesn't mention 3D in the teaser trailer but the poster for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (also directed by Paul W.S. Anderson) didn't mention 3D either, and it was also a 3D conversion.

And now currently it appears to be coming to theaters this coming December, which is interesting, the film will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Releasing except in China, Germany and Japan, in China, where it be distributed by Tencent Pictures, in Germany, where it be distributed by Constantin Film, and in Japan, where it be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.

It would be interesting to what the 3D is gonna look like in this film.

I did check the film's IMDb page before created this thread and found out the film is already completed, so the film's 3D conversion process is already done, anyway i found out the film's new release date is currently set for December 30 as of today.

The chances of a blu ray 3D release from Sony is very slim and they may dump out flat almost worldwide (with the exception of Germany and Japan which are the only countries Sony does not have the rights to this film, and are only the only countries may get a blu ray 3D release), so don't expect a blu ray 3D release of this film to come out in the U.K., Australia or the U.S. unfortunately.

I think it says it all that even Anderson has now given up on native 3D. Resident Evil Final Chapter could've been an exception but he is clearly going the conversion route now.

I'm keeping an eye on this movie, but I'm not expecting greatness. It's got an interesting world and premise, so there's potential for a fun movie. Honestly the one thing that has caught my attention with this movie is that Tony Jaa is in it. So the action has the potential to be amazing.

OMG! Publisher: Sony...

Destroyed my hope for a 3D Blu Ray already.

I think we need a wonder like Paramount Pictures with the Gemini Man 3D Disc...

Jumanji Next Level was a box office hit and didn't get 3D bluray. I don't think we'll see a 3D bluray of this.

No, definitely a 3D disc of this film won't be released in the U.K. or Australia.

Only countries i could see this film getting a 3D disc is Germany and i wouldn't be surprised if Japan got a 3D disc as well, everywhere else is pretty much out of luck when it comes to a blu ray 3D release.

Chances of this movie getting a 3d disc are slim agreed. I'm also worried about the next Venom and Spiderman movies getting 3d discs. At this point I'm like If I like the movie I'l get it regardless but would prefer to have it in 3d given the option.

Sony really dropped the ball with not releasing a 3D disc for Jumanji: The Next Level.

But keep in mind the only countries that Sony is not distributing this film is Germany and Japan.

Like i said all the other countries where Sony is distributing this film chances of a 3D disc is very slim and are out of luck.

From what i found on the film's company credits page on IMDb, as for who distributing this film in Germany and Japan, they are:
Constantin Film Verleih (2020) (Germany) (theatrical)
Toho Company (2020) (Japan) (theatrical)

I'm little worried as well about the next Venom and Spider-Man movies getting 3D discs.

Just wanted to note that Monster Hunter is being edited by Doobie White, the same film editor who worked on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

The hyper fast editing and the shaky camera work in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter didn't do the 3D any favors.

I kinda wish that Monster Hunter doesn't go down the same route that Resident Evil: The Final Chapter did.

I'm not surprised he went down the 3D conversion route with this film, like he did with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, i really wonder how the 3D is gonna turn out in this film.

If this makes it into theaters this December, I'll consider it. But I wonder if theaters will support 3D. I hope so, if this is in 3D afterall. Thanks for posting the info Biss Skyler.

Yeah, it stinks he gave up, but I think his producers and friends in the industry probably tried to persuade him to leave it behind too. Now Paul WS Anderson is doing this nonsense with rapid fire editing and his movies are unwatchable IMO now after seeing RE Final Chapter, which I still haven't bought for home video, even though I have his other films. Horrible fast editing.

Tony Jaa, that's cool. He's awesome with martial arts. Hopefully he gets to perform them unlike his brief cameo in Force Awakens.

Thanks. I now have no hope for this film. The film is probably already completed, so I'll have to look at the next trailer to see the action editing flow.

Final Chapter RE's fast editing reminds me of the director Megaton's terrible editing with Taken 2 and 3:

This is the worst thing ever IMO for a movie. A music video would be okay, but not a movie. Totally ruins the flow of Liam jumping over a fence, nevermind all the other action scenes ruined.

Wow! Just wow. That editing deserves some sort of award for the worst film-making ever! I assume it's the ease of digital editing that's partly responsible for people doing this sort of nonsense. I thought the Quantum of Solace car chase was hideous, but this takes it to another level.

Funnily enough, when you say this might be okay for a music video, maybe for a single, but if you're a fan of the rock group Iron Maiden, you should (or shouldn't) watch some of their more recent full concert Blu-rays which were edited by the band's bass player (Steve Harris, the group's main guy) in a style not dissimilar to this gate jump. Also unwatchable.

Anyway, if PWSA serves up this sort of thing in the movie, then there's no need for a monster hunter, the search is over: The monster's right there in the edit suite...

According to NATO there are four movies to be shown in 3D (in No. America) from 10/1 to 12/30:

Thursday, October 1st, 2020: Jiang Ziya

Friday, November 20th, 2020: Soul

Wednesday, November 25th, 2020: The Croods: A New Age

Friday, December 25th, 2020: Wonder Woman 1984

https://www.boxofficepro.com/release...dar/3d/2020/10

No guarantee any of the Nov. & Dec. release dates hold firm.

That Boxofficepro site doesn't always provide a complete list of 3D movies. Monster Hunter has a conversion. You can see it in the IMDB credits. Also, Jiang Ziya is playing in 3D in China, but it's only standard 2D near me in Texas. It got a Chinese 3D conversion by TWR Entertainment. It would be a challenge to find anywhere in the U.S. that's offering a 3D showing.

I'm expecting better-looking 3D depth from a current Stereo D work, compared to Legend3D in 2016 for RE: The Final Chapter. There's no way they're budgeting top dollar to get Marvel-quality depth though. As for the film itself, my expectations are very low. We'll at least get some fun action scenes... if that film editor doesn't chop them up into bits. It's mind-boggling why anyone would want their film to look like that.

Thanks. I agree that fast editing to the point a simple action is chopped into 10 different angles is awful. The director actually planted that many cameras on his set and had each of them filming the same action, knowing that he wants as much "coverage" of all the action as possible from different angles, so he can then make a mess of it in the editing room by adding all the angles into the fence scene for example.

The directors who do this have their reasons for rapid editing, but not good ones IMO.

That's a relief to hear Stereo D is handling the conversion for Monster Hunter 2020 3D. Good point about the lower budget conversion from Stereo D due to the film's budget being smaller no doubt. And how that usually results in milder 3D in general compared to the stronger 3D conversion like Thor Ragnarok which cost more to offer stronger 3D conversions.

Yes, I agree about low expectations and the likelihood of rapid editing again.
