Canada Where to buy SACD at retail?

I have yet to see SACD available at any retail outlet in Canada. I know of one store locally that specializes in Jazz and Classical CD and I'm going to check them out later today.

Do any of you have problems finding this format at B&M's as well? Is online the only real option?

I've seen small selections at Future Shop and Best Buy - maybe 40-50 titles.

Really? Because I've looked there and have never seen anything. Do they have them mixed in with regular CDs?

There is a section in the same area as CD's in the stores here. It's like a section for country, a section for rock, etc. , and a section of SACD's.

Here are the searches on their sites:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/dept.a...EN&catid=21042

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/cla...=EN&catid=1325

They likely don't have all those in store but i've seen the sections of them here.

A lot of stores in the last 12 months have actually removed their SACD/DVD-A sections. My local store stopped stocking them separately sometime towards the end of last year.

Sucks, but I guess that just shows how little they sell. I had picked up a few SACD's and DVD-A's from Best Buy for $19.99 over the last couple years, so I was sad to see it go.

I remember when they first came out HMV had a decent section on Yonge, but I doubt they have one anymore either...at least not for pop/rock/metal music. There's just not enough releases on a weekly basis.

In the stores around Oak/Miss/Burl I haven't seen a seperate section either, which is why I was pondering this whole thing. I know I can order online, which is great, but you know...I like browsing around.

Hmmm....

They were there 2 weeks ago at the stores nearest me at least vecause I was considering buying a few. Maybe I'll check again this weekend to see if they have been removed. I wouldn't be suprised though.

They mix SACD and DVD-A in with regular CDs at the stores I visit which makes them a challenge to find. But at least the DVD-A have a logo on the top edge of the package that indicates they are DVD-A. I wish they did that for SACD. I can simply tilt the stack forward and scan the tops for DVD-As as a result of that marking, but the SACD almost seem to hide it, even when you happen to spot the little symbol on the back it is almost camouflaged. Why did they chose to do this? It is as if they never wanted them to be easy to find.

Sorry, I failed to pick up that this thread was specifically aimed at Canadian B&M stores, I just looked at the general title about SACD availability.

Well, it was 20 degrees on the Saturday and absolutely gorgeous.
Plus I smoked 6 racks of ribs for 3.5 hours during the afternoon and everyone enjoyed them.

Look at those bad boys!!!! That little rack cost $9, $11 for a smoking box and $5 for a bag of mesquite chips. Dang, I loves me some bbq!

I think Ribfest is generally one of my favourite times of year - Burlington has a great one but I usually only get to the St. Kitts one.

Great shot of the BAD BOY and his Ribs! LOL! I usually go to the Burlington Ribfest at Spencer Smith Park as well, along with the one at Mississauga City Hall. Like you, I love me some ribs and have a great dry rub and sauce to match. Weather right now has got me clamoring for some!

Anyone with an interest in SACD and DVD-A should really look at on-line sources like Amazon. The brick and mortar stores gave up on the formats a couple of years ago. Tower was a good source but of course they went out of business. The last retailer with a significant physical presence to carry these discs currently is Fry's Electronics.

I'm afraid you are probably right, but I thought I'd ask anyway......

When my wife and I buy our first house later this year I'd really like to build my own smoker and start doing brisket, ribs and other meats. Ain't nothing better.

There's a very good chance I'll come up for the Burl ribfest this year, so give me a check when it's getting close. If we're not on the road for DMB, I'm making it for sure.
