Default 80's Cartoon series on Blu Ray?!

So far there are no 80's animated series on US Blu Ray.

If you guys can think of some please list them.

Anyone know why we haven't seen any of them get Blu Ray love?

Space Adventure Cobra: The Complete Original TV Series (1982-1983) just came out recently, if that's counted.

I'm fairly certain that has German audio only.

Now that I remember it, didn't a lot of those shows only have VHS as a master so you could only really get an upscale?

Video, but not VHS. There's a difference.

Many of them were originally made on animation cels and on film stock, but the final version was then finished on tape. Unfortunately many companies felt no need to preserve the film stock or cels and just trashed them. I know that's exactly what happened to He-Man and I believe the same happened to Transformers.

Masters of the Universe
The Filmation catalogue
Transformers
Maybe the other HASBRO properties as well... (hopefully, not M.A.S.K).

Transformers has film masters as does GI Joe. Only the films have been released on Blu-Ray because nobody has been willing to pony up the money for HD remastering.

I would buy Count Duckula, Dungeons and Dragons, Galaxy High, Garfield and Friends, G. I. Joe, He-Man, Inspector Gadget, Jem and The Holograms, Rainbow Brite, She-Ra, T.M.N.T., The Littles, The Real Ghostbusters, The Smurfs, Thundarr The Barbarian, Thundercats, Transformers, etc. on Blu ray.

The Real Ghostbusters is available in Germany, SD on Blu-ray, probably the best it will get.

Count Duckula would be awesome, I would also like to see Visionaries and Ducktales.

Edit - I believe the German release might be region B locked

At least we have gotten cartoon series from the 60's, 70's, and 90's on Blu Ray. But still you would think they would have released at least a few from the 80's by now.

Cant think of any.

Not series but the closest thing I can think of is GI Joe: The Movie(animated) and Transformers the Movie(animated).

Not 80s but the 2011 reboot of Thundercats was released on blu-ray.

Yeah, we have gotten 80's animated movies, but not the animated TV series.

While "X-Men: The Animated Series" isn't from the 80's (90's actually), it's surprising it hasn't been remastered in HD for a BD release.

But only the unfinished production masters. They contain several animation errors that were corrected for broadcast, but nobody has been able to track down the production film masters, just the tape ones.

It definitely seems like you can only find 80's anime in HD but not American cartoons.

Like many animated series of the time, it was finished on video, to create the broadcast masters. The original film elements are probably gone.

Yes, and the same situation unfortunately applies to the majority of such series from roughly 1983/1984 onwards. Series from the very early 80s were still finished on film, therefore if any original broadcast prints still exist, Blu-ray releases would be possible.

Not 1980s (but close), but Warner's foresight to archive all the film prints for Batman: The Animated Series is a notable exception, one that almost certainly won't apply to most other 80s or 90s shows edited and finished on video.
