I'd go with funniest of the 80s, although The Blues Brothers, This is Spinal Tap, Raising Arizona and National Lampoon's Vacation give it a run for it's money. All time, I'd be up against Monty Python and Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Young Frankenstein, Groundhog Day etc.

Airplane is good fun, but best of the 80s? Nope, I prefer 'Spaceballs'.
Best of all time? There is a lot of fantastic older comedies that I love a whole lot more that Airplane (Duck Soup, Dr Strangelove, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Monty Python and the Holy Grail).
No, if you are talking one of the best spoof movies ever? Heck yes!

Of the 80s comedies I've seen, Airplane makes me laugh the most and the most consistently, so I'd say yes, it's the funniest of the 80s.

Not the best though. Back to the Future, Beetlejuice, and Ghostbusters are the 80s comedies I value over this. However, the only other comedy I can think of that's equally absurd and rapid-fire-funny is Police Academy, but Airplane wins out over that imo (and it even has a better sequel than PA 3-7).

Funniest of all time? Comes close for me, but nah, there are several others that make me laugh as much if not more.

The only one that comes close to Airplane! is The Naked Gun IMO. It is easily my favorite comedy of all time.

It's great, but I like the Naked Gun movies even better for that style of comedy, since Leslie Nielsen was the star for those.

That's not even getting into movies like Ghostbusters, Back to the Future etc.

I think I'd put it as the funniest film of the 1980s for me personally. Immensely quotable and memorable.
