Bandai Visual will have to make new 4K masters, and they really should, as the first two films at least were incorrectly scanned and framed on the Blu-rays.

I just hope Anime Ltd. and GKIDS would do a similar 4K release for the OG Neon Genesis Evangelion movies, especially with the hype surrounding the final Rebuild film, and the fact that 4K masters of the first three Rebuild films were broadcasted on Japanese television.

Also, English 4K discs for all of the 4K Gundam titles, especially the MSG Trilogy (which had a Dolby Atmos remix in addition to the original mono mix) and Char's Counterattack.

What I wouldn’t give for an Anime Limited Patlabor trilogy UHD box set.

The only title(s) in their back catalog that seem likely to get an upgrade are the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy and Char's Counterattack but I suppose that depends on whether they have to dance to Nozomi's tune.

The others that are known to have 4K masters like Belladonna of Sadness and Momotaro's Divine Sea Warriors don't seem like they'd be particularly good sellers on the format.

Slightly OT but what's the story with Evangelion? I love the show but haven't seen it for what must be 10 years, they started doing these 1:11 'movies' or whatever they were and I lost track. Do they keep remaking them as movies or something?

100% it will, the original Japanese 4K version had HDR.

I already have the UK Blu-ray Steelbook and the Japanese mega expensive collectors edition with 4k. Am I going to crumble when I see the sweet collectors edition?

Yeah, the new movies are a series called “The Rebuild of Evangelion,” and starting with the second movie they massively change the plot and go in a totally different direction than the series. The fourth and final film is releasing on 8 March in Japan, so it should be fully done in terms of narrative to this alternate retelling. (Khara will continue to milk the franchise dry with other merchandising, though)

I think AL have said this won’t be a CE, and it won’t be a SteelBook like Weathering With You.

It's a collector's edition 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray combo pack, containing AL's traditional rigid box/digipack packaging with 28 page booklet and 4 art cards. SRP £49.99.

The booklet will contain bits and pieces from the Deluxe Edition. Unlike Funimation's Blu-ray, Anime Limited's discs will have English & Japanese OST versions available for the English dub.

Wanted to chime in here with my thoughts, just got my package in the mail from Zavvi!

Absolutely beautiful disc. The best animation I've seen so far, PQ-wise. Very high level of detail, very sharp lines that shows how carefully crafted this animation was. Zero banding in any scenes, no black crush at all. HDR is slightly on the reserved side, stars have a shimmer and glow to them that makes them pop from the background. But it's not as dramatic as something like a Marvel or DC movie, which of course bring out the maximum from your displays brightness. I wanted to compare with the Blu-Ray but I don't have a region free player. Really happy with this, hope you guys also enjoy this wonderful presentation and movie!!
