Some copies of the GKIDS UHD/BD Collector's Edition use the incorrect artwork for the BD disc (artwork with Hodoka from standard edition instead of a sunset). Shout Factory has set up a replacement program for affected customers

Disgusting digipak made me really glad I ordered the UK UHD instead (nicer SteelBook instead).

This disc appears to be region locked (yes the 4K UHD). I'm aware UHDs are all region free and that, confusingly, the Blu-ray is black and the UHD is blue, but I don't know what other conclusion to reach.

I had my Oppo on Region B because I can play Region A Blu-Ray discs on my PS3. I put in the UHD, this message came up "This disc's region code is not compatible with your player." I figured I put in the wrong disc but nope it was the UHD. The Blu-ray displays the same message. Region Coding messages like that are video encoded on the disc so it's not just my player messing up or something.

As a sanity check, I put in known region locked title Friday the 13th Part 3 3D, "INVALID REGION" was displayed (expected).

I switched the player to Region A. Friday the 13th Part 3 3D loads and plays. Weathering With You Blu-ray loads and plays. Weathering With You UHD loads and plays and my TV detects Dolby Vision, which means it wasn't somehow really a blu-ray that was labelled a UHD. Watched the movie, picture appears to be 4K especially in the rain and snow scenes, and the HDR is incredible. No special features on disc, it's the definitely the UHD.

Switched region back to Region B. Friday the 13th Part 3 3D says "INVALID REGION". Weathering With You UHD displays "This disc's region code is not compatible with your player." Weathering With You Blu-ray displays "This disc's region code is not compatible with your player."

Am I missing something? Can anyone confirm this behavior?

Maybe Shout messed up what disc art was on what disc, as I seriously, seriously doubt a UHD is region locked (if that's at all possible). So try all the discs and see if any of them displays 2160p HDR, hopefully it was mislabeled, but if not... this would be the biggest blunder of the year (I doubt it, though).

It puts out a Dolby Vision picture (when I can play it on Region A) so I don't see how it's not a UHD. A Blu-ray can't have Dolby Vision right?

My discs don't look like the ones in that video (for example, the blu-ray is black). But it does say Ultra HD blu-ray on it and the PS3 won't recognize the disc, whereas it does recognize and play the blu-ray.

This is what I did just now. The Player is on Region B.

Put in disc labelled UltraHD Blu-Ray which is a blue disc and says feature film.
"This disc's region code is not compatible with your player"

Put in disc labelled Blu-ray Disc which is a black disc and just says Weathering with You.
"This disc's region code is not compatible with your player"

Switched Player to Region A.

Put in disc labelled UltraHD Blu-Ray which is a blue disc and says feature film.
It loads. The top menu has options "PLAY 4K UHD", "CHAPTERS" and "SETUP." There are no bonus features. Selected "PLAY 4K UHD". Went to 2nd chapter of the movie. Oppo reports under media information that the content on disc is 3840x2160 resolution with a framerate of 23.976p and an HDR format of Dolby Vision. My TV says it's getting Dolby Vision.

Put in disc labelled Blu-ray Disc which is a black disc and just says Weathering with You.
It loads. The top menus has option "PLAY", "CHAPTERS", "SETUP", and "BONUS." Selected "PLAY." Went to 2nd chapter of the movie. Oppo reports under media information that the content on disc is 1920x1080 resolution with a framerate of 23.976p and an HDR format of SDR. My TV says it's not getting HDR.

Put in disc labelled Bonus Documentary which is a green disc. The top menus has option "PLAY THE MAKING OF WEATHER WITH YOU", "CHAPTERS", "SETUP". I played the documentary, it's in 1080 and SDR and definitely not the movie. The movie is not on the disc.

Put in the CD which is a blu-disc. The CD track menu comes up. So it's just a CD.

No other discs to try.

Switched player back to Region B.

Not sure what else I can try.

Your descriptions of what the discs look like are a bit confusing, any chance you could post photos of them so we know what you mean by "blue" and "black" discs?

So their product image lied, those last two discs are stacked when the image showed what looked like separate holders, just on top of each other like some steelbooks are.

As for the discs, I don't know. I won't have mine until next weekend lol

I see, the Blu-ray is black because it's the standard edition Blu-ray disc that was mistakenly distributed in these sets. I'd be curious to hear from anyone else with multi-region UHD players if they're encountering a region lock, as far as I know of, this is unprecedented.

Disney and Sony's stupidity is rubbing off, I guess lol I'll just have to remove the cd and put it in a cd-r jewel case and put it somewhere, I'll likely never listen to it anyway.

To elaborate a bit, the movie discs on both editions are content-identical. So yeah, you’re just getting a new disc with another label.

Yep, same thing happened to me. Put the UHD disc in my Region B player and got the "wrong region" message. Then put it in my Region A player and it played without a problem. And it was definitely the 4k UHD disc with Dolby Vision and all. No idea what they did there but it's a disappointing precedent.

Thanks for confirming! Glad I'm not crazy lol, but wow this sucks. Maybe it's a mistake, but I guess it ends this notion that UHDs can't be region locked, which I've seen a lot of people say before. Everyone thought PS3 games were region free, until 1 (and only 1) was finally region locked haha.
