I always thought this movie was well directed, and its probably the directors only "good" movie, thats just my opinion. Anyway I recently picked this up on Blu-Ray, looks incredible..I'm hoping it'll eventually get a 4K remaster. Also this movie reminded me of Copy Cat, and Murder by Numbers. And up until I actually watched the beginning credits I had no idea it was based on a novel. Cheers!

I haven't seen this movie in like 10 or 15 years. I barley remember it, though. The only things I remember very well are me and my friends laughing our asses off at the first murder scene. We were like, bullshit! That's not possible, lol! Also I remember the twist as well.
But yeah, I don't remember enough to know if I liked it or not. I think I thought it was just okay. To those who never seen this and are interested, I say give it a chance. |

I'll see if I'll give it another rewatch at some point. I just, I don't know. I'm never in the mood for it. It's one of those movies where once you know the twist, you have no reasons to revisit it. But again, it's been so many years. I'll be open minded it about seeing it again when the right moment happens.

I like it but it sure wastes Kiefer Sutherland.
Last time i watched it, I noticed Paul Dano & Tom's son in War of the Worlds were in the first scene. |

It was an interesting idea, though it telegraphs a twist is coming in the last act by hanging around the way it does. While something like Saw has its audience stick around just long enough to see our remaining protagonist so you don't see it coming, Taking Lives suffers from "ah we got the bad guy" and then the moving just keeps chugging along and you think "well, now I know he's not the killer".
Good idea, not badly shot but could be better executed in its final act. |
