I have been a Charlie fan ever since Undeclared and than several years later Green Street Hooligans, and of course he's always fantastic in SOA, but dude better bulk up quick for Thor! Hope he gets the part this would be massive for his career!
Charlie Hunnam (TVs "Sons of Anarchy") tells IGN Movies that he's indeed in the running to play hammer-swinging medical student, Donald Blake - better known as 'Thor'. Granted British actor Hunnam (who some may remember from the series "Undeclared") has only had the one screen test so far- but it did involve trying on the blonde superhero's iconic duds. Marvel wouldn't be wasting times and, er, tape, on someone they weren't seriously considering. Previous reports suggested the frontrunner for the role of Thor was "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard. Talking to E Online though, Skarsgard (despite being seen lunching with director Branagh earlier this year) said he doesn't think he'll get the gig. Whoever gets the gig will be tied to doing "The Avengers" film too. ![]() ![]() Last edited by WyldeMan45; 04-22-2009 at 07:04 PM. |

Yeah I said he definitely needs to bulk up. In one of the SOA episodes him and one of the others are working outside shirtless and you can see how small he is compared to Ryan Hurst who plays Opie. I think Charlie might be around 170lbs and I think he's about 6'0" so he will seriously need to bulk up, Thor never looked like GSP after all, cause he was dwarfed in comparison to Opie. Than again Opie is like 6'4" and 250lbs so that might be why he got dwarfed haha.

Thor should be at least 6' 4 or so and built like a brick house, with a naturally large frame. that's the image I have in my mind since childhood.
6' 1 and even 220 won't do the character justice |

yeah I think an unknown would do well. when it comes to iconic characters being on screen for the first time I think an unknown is usually a better choice so you truly see the character and not just "Tom Cruise in a suit" or whatever.
obviously it worked with Iron man but then he was pretty much just paying himself and Iron Man's physical appearance is not as important as say..Superman. |

I'd like to see Skaarsgard play Thor, but this other guy could pull it off too. They can make him seem a bit taller on screen, but I would also love to see an unknown take this role. I'm tired of seeing the same people in Hollywood movies, don't think I can take another Nic Cage or Samuel L Jackson movie |

Though it wouldn't be the first time somebody small looked big on screen, Gerard Butler (300) and Edward Norton (American History X) come to mind

He was just on Kimmel earlier this month, and Jimmy is several inches taller than him at 6'1" but he just appeared to be much smaller than you'd think, definitely not 220. He is much closer to 200lbs. He might be able to bulk up to 220 but that is definitely not his walking around weight now. Maybe 8 years ago but definitely not what he weighs currently. The camera always makes guys look much bigger than they really are, it's all about angles, and smaller co-stars.
