Default Hopefully Blu-ray doesn't get slaughtered Tuesday?

I noticed all the advertisements for Blades of Glory and Heroes - Season One on HDDVD, and nothing being released on Blu-Ray, I sure hope Blu doesnt get slaughtered in the weekly numbers. I will definatly have to buy at least 2 new blu-rays to counteract on my part.

Blu-ray will still win the week.
Sales of 300 have been strong and there has been a surge of Paramount titles being bought.
I would expect it to still be 60:40 or higher.

(Y'know, I had to keep reading to realize you meant "Heroes" might slaughter Blu-ray?--
I was wondering why somebody thought a Will Ferrell movie would somehow have some perceptible effect on the marketplace... )

No worries for next week. The Heroes set is selling well on Amazon because of price... no one will be buying this in stores for $99.

The same thing happened with the Matrix. People thought it would do well, but it barely made a blip on the Nielson rankings. Blades of Glory is a joke... the demographic that likes that movie won't be overlapping with HD DVD. They could have sold 3:1 if they kept the BD release.

That said, I'm going to find a half dozen or so titles to buy anyway.

not only that, but Heroes:Season 1 didnt get spectacular reviews even from Peter Bracke himself.

...so for someone like me who has never seen the show, I wouldnt buy it on HD (maybe SD) mainly because the PQ and AQ was pretty weak. (also for the fact I have no hd-dvd player, im strictly blu! )

Even when BoG was on Blu I wasn't going to buy it. I was planning on renting the SD version and watching on my PS3. Comedies just aren't a Hi-Def must for me.

Wait 'till tomorrow and only buy items in stock. Nielsen's week includes sales tomorrow thru next Sunday, with results in HMM the following Friday, 9/7.

Pre-orders count in the week in which they're fulfilled i.e. the BD is shipped or otherwise delivered to you.

My response to Paramount. . .

Come the 28th I'm pulling the trigger on GoodFellas, Tears of the Sun, Payback, The Terminator and
Resident Evil - Apocalypse
.

Some lesser titles I've been meaning to fit in on a low release week anyway.

Roger that. I have a looooong list of things to pick up this week, completely independent of my usual day-and-date purchases.

People seem to be pouring in Heroes now on Amazon (#14). Possibly because the Paramount news has emboldened many, and possibly because the reviews are not showing it's a mess, and they were holding off.

The Matrix had poorer rankings, but sustained over many months. Heroes is a sudden blip from months of poor ranking, and occuring well after the booking. So, Amazon may end up not having enough on order to cover the pre-orders (a la Planet Earth).

Heroes will win the week. But, with little else, HD DVD is going to have a hard time winning the week. And I don't think B&M will be stocking a lot of copies. Not of a $99 SRP box set.

Gary

P.S. Just to be sure, people could always pick up a few Blu-ray titles.

Will be picking up at lest 4 BDs this week. Time to fill in some of the older titles.

I feel your pain. I've been to 4 movie store in the past 2 days and not one of them had shooter on Blu Ray. 2 BBY's a suncoast video and FYE. What gives? Amazon it is.

Hehe, I'm not either. Did you see the episode of South Park where Cartman stopped by his house, rang the bell and told him "you're just not funny" ?

I guess there are quite a few people that don't think he's funny

Just bought Goodfellas and both Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I'll probably get Shooter in a few days.
