Default Opening Bond Sequences/Music...

I've been trying to hip myself to older (pre-Brosnan/Craig) Bond flicks as of late. Obviously, I've quickly noticed that opening sequences are part of the 007 brand. As a graphic designer and just a fan of good music, I've really enjoy these sequences. Question is; which ones are my favorites?

Graphics - I'd have to go with the most recent QoS. Thought those were tight.
Music - Oddly enough, Madonna's Die Another Die. That track is sexy, seductive & relevant.
Honorable Mention - Live & Let Die.

You?

Honestly, I got into Bond after Tomorrow Never Dies. So I can't rate the older ones. However the opening scenes are a tie bewteen CR and QoS. CR had the better song between the two, go Chris Cornell, and the cards theme was unique. QoS theme done by Jack White and Alicia Keys, was in a way, out of place. However, the desert theme was cool.

I LOVED the song and visuals for Casino Royale....it would be my #1.

On the flipside, I VERY NEARLY walked out of the theater during the QoS opening credits. That song made me want to shove rusty screwdrivers into my ears .....yep, I hated it that much. Oddly, as I looked around the theater during my moments of suicidal contemplation ( ), I noticed other people grimacing as well, yet I never hear people talk about it on these forums. Hmmm.

I'd have to rewatch some older ones to really get an idea of my favorite...

But I definitely REALLY enjoyed both QoS and CR...I'm a little partial to CR though since it's the first movie I watched at home in HD...and holy crap does that intro POP out at you.

I think "Another Way To Die" (Keys/Black) as a standalone track is brilliant, but didn't fit the tone of QoS nor other Bond films for that matter. But the graphics were ill IMO.

Bond film "purists" seem to take the opening sequence to heart...

Good old Goldfinger, I know it is the obvious choice but it's an obvious choice for a reason.

Casino music surpasses QOS in every regard. For Your Eyes Only is excellent as is The Spy Who Loved Me. Honorable mention for Live and Let Die.

My favorite opening title sequences(chronologically):

From Russia With Love - One of the few early ones not done by Maurice Binder. I dig the credits projected onto the gypsy girl's body with the John Barry score in the background.

Goldfinger - The other one not done by Binder. It's got the best Bond song, so it's gotta rank near the top.

You Only Live Twice - Great song coupled with cool lava footage that ties in nicely with the film's (absurd)storyline.

The Spy Who Loved Me - Another great song and compliments perfectly the opening scene that preceeds it.

A View To a Kill - One of the series' best songs. The movie itself....not so much.

GoldenEye - I was never a big fan of Kleinman's CG-laden title sequences, but this one worked. It did a nice job transitioning from Cold War-era Bond to the 1990's.

Casino Royale - The Chris Cornell song has grown on me, in part because the images that accompany it are great. This title sequence serves as a nice intro to Daniel Craig as Bond while tying into the cardplaying element in the plot.

Casino Royale for me as well. I know a lot of people were quite dismayed by the song at first but I thought it blended well with the opening sequence.

Plus the usual opening sequences of women dancing in slow motion on a gigantic barrel of a pistol with their wind-blown hair got a little bit boring.

As a big Chris Cornell fan, Casino Royale is the best theme song I have heard. As far as the visuals, not sure. From what I remember, Octo***** was nice.

Tina Turner with Goldeneye is my personal favorite. AND she performed it live about 6 months ago on her last tour. Now that was a treat.

Each actor added their own trademark to the gun barrel sequence while the opening credits evolved over the years.

Dr. No was a basic opening credit sequence that leads into the film's first scene with silhouettes transitioning to the real blind mice.

From Russia With Love's credit sequence is a projection of the credits on a belly dancer. This ties in a portion of the story.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the first and only Bond to use previous footage from the Bond movies in its opening credits sequence.

Die Another Day was the first and only Bond film to use the opening credit sequence to advance the plot. We see Bond being tortured as the opening number plays. This is one of my favorites as the music never seemed to drag on.

Casino Royale (2006) omitted the nude silhouettes and was similar in style to Dr. No. The animated silhouette transitions to the real James Bond just as the song ends. This is another of my favorites since the song fit so well with the premise.

Quantum of Solace returns to the classic Bond credits with nude silhouettes and classic Bond elements interacting with the backgrounds. The sequence was nice but like The World is Not Enough, the song style just did not fit right. Far too jazzy for this Bond who with his atttitude would be better served with a stronger Emo band.

I wish there was a way to play them all on HD with DTS-HD back to back while I chill with the girlfriend while sipping on some 64 Bollinger. But I'm partial to CR, QoS, Dr.No, Goldfinger, Golden Eye, Spy who loved me.

Always liked the Thunderball credits, that's the movie that really started the nude silloutes. I do also think the CR song and opening credits are the best in ages.

CASINO ROYALE....hands down! It looks beautiful in HD and "You Know My Name" is such a fitting song if you listen to the lyrics. I wish Soundgarden would just get back together already.

i love the visuals of casino royale the animated silhouette of the black and white bond fighting the bad guys was perfect i wish they would use it again it was great the best i've seen.

the title song for quantum of solace was the worst title song in the history of james bond. the visuals was ordinary, no opening credit to speak of, no gun barrel sequence. big disappointment overall.

the worst soundtrack for me: goldeneye, luc besson created horrible work with this sountrack it felt slow and boring to me.
