Steelbook looks fine to me, but is there no standard slipcover version? Weird.

Still, can't imagine passing on a Sony UHD just because of the packaging, especially for a movie this good.

Good call. I actually thought James Dean at first. They've given him pompadour and far too pronounced laugh lines.

I agree the color choice is questionable, it doesn't feel Sci-fi or Gattaca. It looks almost like Bohemian Rhapsody. They should've went with a blue look.

Ugly steelbook. I can hold out for the inevitable regular case reissue.

I'm buying it day one, will buy a standard version as well, mainly cause the steelbook art is blahhh, color scheme is crappy and needs Uma on it along with Titan.

Actually, now that I think about it, IF THE ARTIST IS READING THIS: please add an enormous Saturn and Titan moon in the back Ground...add Uma, as she is also a Celestial Body.

I'm in the minority but I really like the cover and excited about buying the film. It's one of my favorites but never owned it.

If anyone wants to give it a try and repaint the entire steelbook to their preferred design. It may not be such a bad idea.

My ideal steel cover would have been a collage not unlike the Total Recall Steelbook we received and on the back a half Saturn, half s perm and egg image with the Gattaca logo

Are you the artist? If so I will gladly knock one out and send it to you.

Nope, but I was thinking about taking the image and photoshopping the orange to a blue color. It would probably look better if the steelbook was overall blue just like the original artwork.

I'm also in the minority, but in cases such as these, more for us!

One of the great things about boards is to gauge the knee-jerk reaction to something that is new and different. I had an immediate, positive reaction to the artwork, but after reading through the comments, decided to give it another look.

Here's my take:
  • The two dominant colors, blue-violet & burnt orange, represent the respective fates of the two main characters.
  • The two main characters are superimposed upon each other to represent their shared identity.
  • The image of the DNA strand represents the tie that binds the story.

It's really a phenomenal work of art befitting a new restoration, and the associated opportunity to expose this gem to new audiences, and far better than some simple Photoshop of actor stills or pre-existing artwork.

Art. It's a lot like cinema. Look into it.

@cgpublic, your interpretation makes me like the steel a bit more, however I still need Uma, a little more accents to insinuate Jude is bursting into flames and that helix should stand out more.

Perhaps they're saving Uma for the inner art. We can only Hope.

It may or may not have inner artwork. Whiplash and Leon the Professional did not have inner artwork, but then District 9 and Crouching Tiger did.

Damn the artwork, I'll wait for the regular release because I hate steelbooks with a passion.

If it has no inner artwork, I'll sketch Uma myself and insert her image...maybe watercolour.

Well, I like the steel artwork, so I'll definitely pick it up. I have a suspicion the steel will have a reflective quality and look much better in person.

Ugh nothing against this steelbook (I actually don't mind the look of it), but I am not a steelbook fan. I'm hoping for a slipcover release. I'll buy it in a heartbeat if it materializes. It'll be a tougher decision if I have to buy a steelbook. One hell of an excellent film either way.

I’m looking forward to this! I especially want the steel book because I attended the college on the cover!
