Question Any more Bond releases?

How long are we going to wait before we see some more Bond films released on BD?

With exception of Casino Royale all the other Bond movies are MGM. So your guess is as good as the next.

I think Sony owns all the rights to releasing any of the Bonds.

Nope, it's in the hands of MGM for all Bond titles up to DIE ANOTHER DAY (MGM distributed by Fox right now). Sony controls CASINO ROYALE and the next Bond movie and that's it.

There are allegedly brand spanking new HD transfers of all the Bond flicks, so I hope a release on blu-ray isn't too far in the future

I know plenty of people who have sworn they will buy a BD player of some kind the day they even see any Bond movies (especially the classics) announced. Not even actually released...just announced.

I'd love to see a little Bond lovin' under the Christmas tree this year.

I really thought this was why a couple of years back that Sony ponied up for MGM so they could control the Bond library specifically for blu-ray! I held off from the ultimate editions on standard DVD, because even though the distribution passed to Fox, I felt sure they would at least announce a blu-ray set. Oh, well.

The original Bond boxsets were released relatively early into the life cycle of regular dvd, and not only were quite successful, but I'm sure helped sell a lot of dvd players. I'm sure the same would happen if they released them soon on Blu-ray.

The Bond films got a full frame by frame restoration by Lowry for the recent Ultimate Editions. For anyone who's unfamiliar with Lowry Digital Images, they're THE top film restoration guys. They used about 600 computers to remove something on the order of 35 million pieces of dirt from the films.

Anyhow, they're ready to go but I assume they (Sony) are sitting on them till such time as they can maximize profits from a broader consumer base.

Plus Sony knows there is enough coming out already that adding them right now might hurt sales of other movies.

Any Blu-Ray Bond will have to wait till next year and the next film.

Home video works on anniversaries and tie-ins.
