Default Dungeons & Dragons

To my surprise, this is an awesome movie, right up there with The Departed, even though it's a totally different style. I bet the sequel is even better.

Anyway, does anyone know why there are two listings for this on amazon? Nothing different in the specs including DVD release date. One has a picture and it shows a snap case. The other doesn't have a picture. I figure the snap case one is a newer pressing, meaning the disc will last longer.

http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Drago.../dp/B00003CXQM

Any hope for this and the sequel to come to blu-ray?

Um, given that the "sequel" was a fairly unrelated direct-to-SyFy cheapie, no.

(Odd that one would actually miss the presence of Marlon Wayans, but...)

Two things bother me about this post.
1.) That you consider the D&D movie as good as The Departed and 2.) The fact that they made a sequel.
The sad thing is that with a proper script, a good director and some decent actors D&D could have turned out to be a great movie trilogy.

I was thrown off by his speech style in an RPG movie at first but it made sense since he and the other guy were both "Commoners" and so should speak in a style different from the Mages.

I like how one of the female Mages, the librarian woman, got her bottom slapped. That was my favorite part of the movie.

Exactly. This movie was a complete and utter mess. It's the 'Street Fighter' of fantasy movies.

I actually like the sequel better than the first. Not a bad effort at all.

Decent actors? Jeremy Irons was in it. And Thora Birch is a pretty good actor too (though you'd never know it from this film).

I don't think a better cast could've fixed this movie. No matter the quality of actors (Requiem for a Dream proved that under the right director even Marlon Wayans can act). Its obvious everything from the costuming to character design (what is with the blue lips?) to the choice of director was a mistake. They probably blew their budget on sets and CG and the only director they could afford was an utter moron.

No I really liked the movie and attractive actresses getting their bottom slapped can't make a bad movie good but it can make a good movie even better. On Netflix it has about a 3 star rating. The sequel is rated higher. In The Departed I thought that Nicholson carried the movie with his acting.

The movie has a very adventury feel to it. The only part I didn't like was some of the gross special effects.

I think a good movie to compare it to is The Princess Bride.

Wow, it's amazing sometimes how varied opinions can be!

D&D for me wasn't even borderline 'fair'. Simply put it is one of the worst movies ever... and I love the genre. That it could somehow have spawned a sequal is frightening.

To each his own! Though I would be interested in you providing the names of a couple of bad movies, in your opinion...

I think I can safely say that your opinion sucks. this may be the first time this has ever been true and it may cause the universe to implode

I also liked that one. Worth at least a rent, but I own the DVD. Got to love the Block Buster cheap bins.

I know it's a bad movie, but I kind-of like it anyway. Sure, the dialogue is lame and goofy, and the plot is unoriginal, but the action/special effects were slick (well, the effects are a bit low-rate. They're just fun to watch). I wouldn't mind seeing it on Blu-Ray.

Didn't care much for the sequel though.

I have both on DVD, not terrible movies. They are fun popcorn movies which is not a bad thing. I know it would not be in the taste range of many people but it's ok.

I thought Zoe Mclellan (JAG, Dirty Sexy Money) did a great job being newer to the leading role world and actually thought she was the only highlight, you'd be surprised at her imdb list of roles. Mr. Wayans was good as usual but they didn't give him alot to work with and he always cracks me up.

The story was okay but the filming, sets, etc were weak. I would never purchase this on blu.

I thought Transmorphers was an awful movie. They made a sequel which I am afraid to try given my experience with the first.

Jay and Silent Bob -- the one on blu-ray -- that was awful too. It makes me afraid to try Dogma since it has those two annoying characters in it.

Another awful movie is Tropic Thunder. I think that's the only critically acclaimed movie that I hated. It is rare that I like a Ben Stiller movie.

About In the Name of the King ... people say the director only makes bad movies ... but then how come people still hire him to be a director? Is it cuz no other director wants to do a movie with a bad script?
