I open it right away or soon after. Never know if you have a missing disc, scratched disc, or wrong disc. I've heard about all those happening before, and have had a missing disc happen to me once. If you wait too long, then you might not be able to return the movie or get a refund.

Right away.
Just to inspect the disc and whatnot. I don't buy a lot of movies at once, so I open and watch it that day/night. I'll always remember my friend buying a BD. He didn't open it up and months later, when he felt like watching it, he found out the only disc that was in the case was the special features disc. The "movie" disc was missing. Well beyond the return period, he had to buy the movie again. Last edited by Majin Blu; 12-27-2020 at 05:26 PM. |

Right away, every time. It always surprises me that so many people leave them unwrapped for so long. You never know what kind of condition the discs might be in, and if you wait too long to check, you might be out of luck if they need to be replaced. On top of that, opening everything up is just part of the fun of the ritual of getting new movies.

As soon as possible. My wife has Blu-rays still in their shrinkwrap from several years ago.

Usually right away. I open it, pull out the digital code (if there is one) to redeem, check out the disc, and , the most important step, I add it to my collection on Blu-ray.com.

Within the day I have it on hand. Seems very important-
-Once bought a Blu-ray and found the disc was missing. Had to go back the next day to exchange it. -Bought a Blu-ray from Amazon Services LLC, they sent me a ex-return that had swapped the disc for a blank CD-R. -Large expensive TV series DVD set had a cracked disc. Didn't actually notice it until I got around to watching it though but I now always inspect discs when I get them. -My budget version sets of Star Trek DS9 and Voyager had a disc stuck to loose glue residue, ruining them. Years ago whenever I buy a new disc I would also test them (usually play the previews and menu). This got too time consuming and was likely wearing my player out so now I only test discs if they have bad looking scratches. I buy movies quicker than I can watch them. I still have discs from 2016 that I haven't watched yet. |

Anyone ever purchase a Blu-ray and find the shrink wrap has adhered to the case along the spine and top edge in particular? In most cases these are Blu-ray's that have clearly been out in the wild unpurchased for some time though not always. You end up removing the shrink wrap, then having to peel and scrap what's stuck to the case. No thanks. When I purchase a Blu-ray the shrink wrap comes off. I also scan the cover art for use with my cataloging software in addition to storing the disc(s) in my Sony 400-disc Blu-ray Players so there's that.
