Default Zombie outbreak... WWJD (what would jomari do)...

Ive had this thread in my home forum, and wanted to share this with you, hoping to at least stimulate your mind. Like a number of people, im a sucker for zombies...

Heres the modified posting...

So ive been discussing this with the gf for a while... man oh man, after watching some good ol horror flicks...

I am legend, 30 days of night, and er... re-watching 28 days/weeks, and er... what was the other one... i cant remember.

so, heres the criteria.:

1. zombie pick - fast (like 28 days/i am legend) or slow (old school legit zombies)

(side note: i am fully aware that 28 days/i am legend cannot be fully qualified for being a zombie, because it was a virus, but its one of those 'for the sake of storyline' things.)

2. engage in 48 hours after initial epidemic starting point is 11pm at night!!!

3. stage - where you located at. lets also consider it to be a tad realistic. no way are we going to be able to steal a tank, nor get ourselves locked up in a bank or what not, considering the authorities would be guarding them like hell.

my end?

first stop? bank or security company. get the flippin keys to an armored truck (oh, believe me, people would want other stuff, i dont need the money at this point - not just yet...)

make sure its got gas

pick up sister/family

gun store, buy bullets. (i think im allowed to do that without purchasing a gun)

wait. Will get a good buncha guns too. Hells freezing over, and I aint no idiot.

shoot over to my closest walmart. since the gorram place is about to close, i rush in and pretty much hijack the darn place.

get everyone out. tell em to take money or whatever they want too. just leave and gimme the keys.

find my escape route -

1. park my armored truck - make sure i barracade the area (fences) and find a quick route to get to it.

2. find my alamo close to the truck.

3. secure the place, and get used to the layout. Security room would be essential

4. get my supplies in order.

5. GUNS! (our walmart has a gun selection - pretty good one too!)

6. boobie traps, door chimes or a way to monitor entrance areas, and have live electricity wires connected to fences laid on the floor. Electricity doesnt use bullets, and I think its a good way of killing the bastages. (I dont think they sell claymores in a gun shop do they?)

7. Have loved ones strap on a radio for constant communication (did i say strap in or strap on? hehehe)

Ive also considered yet another ingenius idea:

Get a boat. Unless the zombies are the I AM LEGEND kind, im a bit weary about their jumping capabilities, and/or the other Dawn of the Dead kind, that can sink in water. Remember: they cant swim. They did that in Dawn of the dead, but only walking, with their primary reasoning is to cross over to the other side. but not literally swim.

A heck living on a Rig, or in a submarine would be great, but im trying to be realistic.

I will add on to this list later on during work.

Can you tell im bored?

Discuss.

You got something with the water deal. I would just gather up all my friends with boats (and I have several with huge shrimp boats) and take all the supplies we could out to Sand Island. It's just a few miles offshore and only accessible by boat or jet ski. Take generators and plenty of gas and have a big old "in your FACE zombies!" party. Live it up off of tasty red snapper and amberjack we could catch from shore.... set up a water desalinization station and wait til the zombies starve to death. Then head back to the mainland and claim all I wanted as mine.

The only thing I would feel bad about is killing all the people who arrived at the island after me and my friends...

Get away from big cities. A few hundred/thousand zombies are one thing, but millions? Islands are a good choice. Stock up on canned goods. As for weapons, can't beat a shotgun with buckshot for close in work. As for a sidearm and rifle combo, go with a 22 cal. They are fairly accurate at long range and you can pack thousands of rounds in a relatively small space. Plus having a rifle/pistol combo of the same calibre saves hunting for multiple rounds in the future and 22's can be found EVERYWHERE. All you need it for is a headshot, and hundreds of mob hitmen can't be wrong.

It's your island. But think about it before you just get rid of them. What if for some reason the outbreak lasts for years? I don't know about you, but I hate gardening, and general labor for the most part. In exchange for your "protection", they could grow crops, fish and keep up with the general upkeep of things. And if they don't like the term slave, then indentured servant has a nice ring to it. I would think either would be preferable to zombie food.

Zombies are dead, therefore they can't starve to death.

like everyone else, try and get to a boat and go to some small island. But I would accept anyone that wants to join in, numbers is the solution and try and gather as much food as possible on the way there. Go down the Saint-Lawrence and then down the coast to find a warmer place. Sooner or later you need to be self sufficient

hmm.

good postings, but aside from the boat or the island idea, for the meantime how can we address our immediate situation if ever? i mean, getting from point a to b is one thing, but HOW to get there is the question.

how about the now situation, what you'd end up doing at your current location, and how realistic things would be.

Cute thread. But there is a book for this already:

The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks

The book even details what to do depending on the level of the outbreak and how to adjust accordingly.

There is a book on a number of things, but i wanted to at least come up with an original thread here aside from 'whats the best this, or whats the worst blu-ray' or 'favorite food to eat' or what not....

Sort of like the grilling thread, this has a little bit more substance in my opinion.

I'd be good. I have a friend who bought into the whole "Y2K" thing. He went all out, generators, solar panels(electricity and water), wood stoves, the whole nine yards. He's got a block home with storm doors and a six foot fence around his property. I thought it was a little , but I kept it to myself just in case.. That's the type person you'd want around in this type of situation. I'd have everyone meet up there with as much food and supplies as they can carry. Most of my friends and family have trucks, so we'd be fine there. Same with guns. Would probably load up on the ammo, but the friend with the "compound" loads rounds as an extra source of income so that wouldn't really be an issue. I live in a good sized city, so leaving would be the thing to do. Either head for the hills, or preferably the island scenario.

Cuz, I'm type 1 diabetic so I'm screwed! Sure I'd go and get as much diabetic supplies as possible (insulin and all that) but while I'm doing that, I'm also losing time on gathering any weapons or procuring a boat.

That being said, does anyone around here have my 6?

I make a mean Chili and I'm a pretty good fisherman!

The chili saved you.

As far as your insulin, if you find it what kind of shelf life does it have?

Ya, I was wondering if anyone was going to bring that up.

At room temperature only a month. However, if we can get some solar panels and car batteries and a fridge, insulin lasts for about 2 yrs. So really, I'd only hold ya back for a little while, trust me, it's worth it.

My chili rules!

So what I'm looking for is anyone who works for Nordisk! Hopefully someone involved with production. Maybe then, I could find away to produce it myself.

Ok, I say we barracade ourselves in here...just for a bit!
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...i=lmd&z=14&t=m

25 miles to the ocean. I'm set!

Can I count you in!?

I think most of us are using our currant situation. On the other hand you have to assume some flexibility. If I am stuck in my home with hundreds of zombies outside my door, then all I can do is barricade the doors and windows and hope for the best, so the first thing would be to barricade the patio door, then the LR windows then the rest, but assuming I can throw some stuff in the car (according to your thing you drove to the bank and there just happened to be an unattended security truck there which you used to drive around town and pick up people and stuff before ending up at WM.

Why is it less possible to throw food in the car (and if capable picking up more food/people) and driving around a mile to the river and maybe having to go a whole 8 miles to the marina, where there most likely are some boats for me to hijack.

robinandtami said she knows people with big boats she can use. For many getting to water might not be that hard.

The issue also for me is that if we assume a 28 days/weeks scenario then doing nothing extravagant might be the best solution (lock yourself in the basement and hope for the best. But for me zombies means already dead and so a long term solution is needed. Sooner or later power will go bye bye. You can't survive here in the winter with no heat source and no power=no heat. And no matter how much food you start off with sooner or later you will need more of it.

This island is literally just a giant sand bar. It's only a couple of square miles big and not a tree on it. No crops there. More people would just be more strain on resources.

The shrimp boats are a mile from my house. Get in my SUV... hope it cranks cuz I never use it.... mow over zombies between point A and point B.... but there won't be many because I am out of the city.

I'd use the information gathered here to discover your islands, walk underwater to them, sneak up and bite you all... cause chances are good I'd be a zombie.
