Default King Kong (1976)

Not a popular opinion I know, but this is my favorite King Kong movie I grew up on. And I don’t care if the cheesy Fx will look even cheesier in 4K, it needs to be delivered this year, on its 45th Anniversary! Especially considering it has never been released in HD in the US.

I would get it on Blu-ray if I could.

Yup. This is the version I grew up watching as well. Would love a proper Blu-ray release.

there are a number of non-US releases of it on blu-ray (no DNR at all which is good, but all seem to have varying degrees of fairly poor compression though and perhaps sharpening although not the halo type and I haven't seen the Brazilian version)

The Director and Cinematographer both died in the last several years, so I don't think Paramount would offer this up in 4K, though I would bet a Murican BD release was on the table (or is) to go with Godzilla VS Kong.

I have the Brazilian version. It’s by far the best. The audio is awesome too.

I hope this get released in 4K. Godzilla vs Kong will be released soon so this year would be good time to do it.

Done properly, it would be great to watch on one of those reference-grade Panasonic OLED displays or a Samsung microLED setup, with delicious blacks in the night scenes on the island and NYC. Unfortunately, there really isn't much color in the film beyond some scenic shots, so it's not going to wow anyone otherwise.

I would be happy just seeing it in 4K. They should include the 3 hour extented TV version too.
