Found 2 more zooms. They are both in the opening credits of "The Good Scout." The first is a zoom out (shrinking the image) on the title card. The 2nd is a zoom in when Fred kisses Wilma. I'm afraid this is going to keep happening throughout the set. Similar to the Wonder Woman issues. WB needs to find out why their system/technician is doing this. No one will say anything until it happens to one of their bigger titles.

I received my replacement disc in the mail on Saturday, it came with the same letter and envelope that have been shown in this thread so far.
I finally checked out the disc yesterday, and "The Big Bank Robbery" indeed does have it's audio corrected with sound effects! It's really great that Warner did this, although I'm still not sure if I'm going to unload my The Complete First Season DVD set, as it's one of the DVDs that had a few bonus features not on this Blu-ray. |

That audio issue that episode 17 had, where you had to get a replacement disc is apparently not a problem anymore unless you get one of the original releases that may still be out there. I didn't buy the set until I got the replacement disc, just in case they weren't going to give one. The one I did buy and received in the mail today, had the disc just fine and it didn't have audio or subtitle issues. I saw no difference between it and the replacement disc.
So if you were against buying because of that one episode issue, it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore, and WB does seem to make good on the replacement discs if you do happen to get one of the first releases. |

It is unsettling to know that someone sitting at a console has the ability to protect or harm a piece of our shared cultural heritage. And if it is harmed, the studio doesn't come to its defense by repairing the damage done.
I really want to start a campaign called "First, Do No Harm." I want to hold the studios accountable for their errors, so that they can be fixed. |

Anyone else notice that the "A Star is Almost Born" episode on Disc 3 has a completely inconsistent aspect-ratio? About halfway through, I realised it wasn't quite 4:3, then it got even wider the very next shot. In 50 eps, its the only one with this quirk.
Don't wanna sound like I'm complaining too much, cos I've spent a month in pure Flintstones heaven. The early days of this show are some of the most comfy, bingeable episodes of an animated sitcom I've ever seen. Before it was a "family" show, it was a "husbands vs wives" show, and its aged like wine. The audio quality also GREATLY improves as the discs progress; must be a consequence of the original elements. |

OMG! THAT ERROR IS HUGE! The aspect ratio is almost 1.66 for the entire episode, except for the DOZENS of times it shifts back and forth.
THIS SET NEEDS TO BE RECALLED NOW! Last edited by moviebuff75; 01-25-2021 at 03:50 PM. |

Everyone who cares about this show needs to write wb at whv@wb.com. This is just awful. The framing errors plaguing several episodes, the incorrect credits being reused over and over, etc. This is not how this show should be treated.

How in bloody hell did they manage to screw up the aspect ratio for an animated series originally shot in 4:3, FFS? It's not like they would have been shot at 1.66:1 in the first place, would it?

The guy at the console may just be doing a quick pass at it, assuming someone will be following up with notes for fixes. The way some big studios handle large video jobs is to book time in the middle of the night for unsupervised sessions at a reduced hourly rate. They are supposed to have a post production supervisor who goes over the work done the night before and calls for fixes, but sometimes idiot production people figure "it's the video house's job- just let them do it." No one notices that a transfer is overscanned for safety and never corrected, or scenes are zoomed to make fixes and never unzoomed. At 3AM, the work can be pretty sloppy, and the "producers" from the studio are too lazy to get up at 3AM to supervise and approve transfers. So the mistakes creep in and aren't noticed until it's too late. It's really more a matter of sloppy producers than sloppy video engineers.

No, it wouldn't have. I keep saying that something is wrong with their equipment, and no one is QC it. It's like they leave it on auto. Same issue with WONDER WOMAN.
The fact that they aren't saying anything, responding to it, or offering replacements says a lot about how much they care. The end credits are also screwed up. They reuse the same ones over and over in the later seasons. This is a disaster. |

These aren't element problems, unless, as noted above, they aren't correcting their settings. The seasons one and two openings were assembled right before the dvd releases and they reuse those. There is no reason why some zoom in and out and others do not.

The zooms on A Star Is Almost Born are pretty awful. Literally jumps from 1.66:1 to 1.33:1 between shots in one scene. The majority of the episode looks slightly zoomed too most likely around 1.40:1 - 1.50:1. They really need to fix this poor Flintstones deserve better

I received my Flintstones Collection today, and it still had the faulty episode. So wanted people to know it is still possible. I just sent for a replacement disc today.
From what I've viewed it is quite beautiful color wise, my only complaint at least 3-4 discs have a hard time staying in place in those small hubs. |

Keep things in perspective. Its still the finest release of this show on the market by a wide margin right now. Even if 20 of the 166 episodes were thoroughly wrecked, it'd still be damn worth the pennies it costs (comparitively speaking).
Hopefully, a few more replacement discs is all it will take to remedy the minor shortcomings. (Though, for my money, they REALLY shouldn't have done The Man Called Flintstone so dirty. Fix that while you're at it, WB). |
