Default Netflix's "Skull Island" (Season 1)

Quote:
Legendary, and the streaming giant Netflix are teaming to expand the Skull Island universe with a new anime series.

Skull Island will be a new chapter in Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise and much like the 2017 Jordan Vogt-Roberts- directed movie Kong: Skull Island, the animated series will follow the adventures of shipwrecked characters that are trying to escape from the mysterious dangerous titular island home to prehistoric monsters, including the titan, Mr. Kong.

Legendary’s Monsterverse kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla and then Kong: Skull Island followed by Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019. Things will come to a head in the next Monsterverse chapter with Godzilla vs. Kong which recently released a catastrophically jaw-dropping trailer. The new animated series will continue the story of these monsters and myths.

Brian Duffield (Underwater, The Babysitter) who will write and executive produce the anime series alongside Jacob Robinson who will executive producer under his company Tractor Pants. The animation studio behind Skull Island is Powerhouse Animation which is the company behind Castlevania and Blood of Zeus.

Went from radio silence for almost two years to getting a trailer, poster, and release date of June 22nd all at once. Damn.

Guess they dropped the anime aspect though and just did it in the style of Young Justice.

Reminds me of the Turok direct-to-video animated movie from way back.

Anyone else watched this yet?

Thoroughly enjoyed it myself. Well paced, decent characters & lots of monster action. Surprisingly funny in places too.

My only minor caveat was with the woman leading the mercenaries. There was no need to keep her motivations so mysterious for so long, other than to add a bit of 'intrigue' to the proceedings.

Watched the first three episodes and.....was honestly big bored by it.

Probably finish it later but the bland characters aren't making me motivated to finish it.

Surprised how much I enjoyed this, I was expecting something so much cheaper. The story is different, if predictable at times, and the characters are a lot of fun. Everyone's so cynical to the point where it almost gets ridiculous, there's a large amount of humor throughout. Wasn't expecting to be emotionally invested in Dog's backstory.
My only real complaint is how so much was left unresolved in the final episode.

Kong starts off not really having a role until the final two episodes, and it turns into a full kaiju homage then.

The connection to the Monsterverse is odd. There's plenty of references, but they stay vague with it. There's no mention of Monarch, and most of the creatures are brand new with just a few from KSI appearing in the seventh episode. No use of the Monsterverse logo is used on the show's promotion. It's almost like they had to make it somewhat a generic entry, not unlike the past couple of Kong animated shows, to avoid any legal ties. I'm just not sure why (besides the obvious reason why Godzilla couldn't be mentioned).

After this and Gamera, it feels like we're finally getting some good animated series attempts.
It's just a shame that a Blu-ray seems so unlikely.

Little late to the party here. Really suprised this has little to no fan fare here. Thought the animation was great. Sound design suprisingly good (Atmos as well!)

Short eps that kept me interested the whole time. Dialogue is witty, on par with Invincible. Has been a suprise watch for me. Looking forward already to S2

I didn't think it was great but I'm always down for more Monsterverse.

I think this won't be considered canon if it doesn't get a second season. The show barely makes any references to elements from the films, even most of the Skull Island fauna is original until the Kong flashback episode. It feels very loosely connected.

Certainly possible, but it could always be treated as canon but generally ignored as a lot of graphic novel/comic/book spin-offs of franchises often are.

I don't recall there being anything notable in terms of events, characters, or monsters that would cause them to want to kick it out of MV prime, so to my point they can pretty much ignore it if anything.

At present I am either expecting it to be canceled or given like one more season along with an announcement it's concluding like Pacific Rim: The Black. There didn't seem to be much hype around this, but Netflix has the data not us. I'd point out that in three years this thread isn't even on its second page, but then again I remember seriously popular content like Squid Game didn't have much discourse on here either, so that doesn't mean much.

The story is finally continuing... in comic book form. RIP season two.
