I know they're supposed to be standalone episodes, but that's what I kept thinking. The lack of an explanation for why he changes bothers me. It has to be the beer, and that it's infected with something. When I first saw all the moss and mold that has taken up residence in the absence of the boy, that's what I was thinking. "Oh, it's a sequel to Jordy Verrill!" But then they never revealed it, though! I know it's a metaphor for alcoholism and all that, and how it consumes everything. But I still think there's a connection there, even if they're being quiet about it.

I was getting Resident Evil 7 vibes all throughout the episode. And if you remember, the last time we left the space grass in "Jordy Verrill", it was headed for a copious rainstorm and it was implied that it would take over a lot of the county, or at least that area. But maybe it didn't. Maybe it just...stopped. Something interfered with it. And it mutated. I think the beer is infected with it, and that's why he changes as he keeps drinking it. For me, the key is that the box of beer already has mold on it at the beginning, and how they're saying they can't get rid of it. As soon as I saw that at the beginning, knowing this is a "Creepshow" episode, I immediately thought, "That's no mold".

We know the guy hasn't been outside of his house in weeks, so he can't be responsible for it. Why would it already have the mold on it? Unless the whole product line is contaminated to begin with. The reason nobody else notices (that we know of), is because he's drinking too much of the damn stuff, and they're not; that's why he's mutating. I know I'm overthinking it, but it seems that there's an obvious connection between the two of them to me!
'Gray Matter' was first published in Oct 1973. 'Weeds' aka 'The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill' was first published in May 1976. Maybe some alien came down and got some of the beer and put it in the meteor before hand and created Meteor Shit!?

Thanks for that little bit of info! I didn't know it was its own story; I thought it had been written for the show. The two episodes just seemed so similar, in some ways, I thought they may have been connected. Damn, there are a lot of those short King horror stories I haven't read before, I imagine. That makes me want to track down the original story.

I appreciate it. I'm sure it must be in one of the collections I've purchased, I just haven't gotten around to reading it. *Off to look for it*

The latest episode was pretty good. The first story, "All Hallows Eve", was a sweet little tale that you might find in something like "Trick r Treat". But the 2nd story, "The Man in the Suitcase". Damn. That's all I'll say. Damn.

That was crazy! And it definitely had a powerful moral with its ending. Even though I saw it coming, it was still definitely earned.

Through four episodes, I genuinely liked four* of the eight stories, mainly due to their imaginative takes and creativity.

The rest of the stories have been pretty average. The biggest issue is that the majority of the tales are just so predictable. I don't know that I need a twist every time, but a slight detour off the beaten path wouldn't hurt either. Naturally, the short runtime for each story probably doesn't allow for too much of that anyway.

Overall, it's been a decent series though. Even the stories which are just "okay" are told with nice production values and craftsmanship.

* In order of preference: "The House of the Head", "The Finger", "The Man in the Suitcase", and "Lydia Layne's Better Half".

It's actually a decent little show so far. Much like TALES FROM THE CRYPT as some are hit and miss while the rest are quite enjoyable for what they are. I can easily rewatch these

Hmmm...a few of the stories are decent. But the whole feel of the show is off. The original Creepshow was effective because the creators had a real connection to what it was homaging: EC Comics. You can tell with this one that it's a generation removed from the source material and that they are now "homaging the homage." They have no connection to the comic book roots and the show suffers for it.

^THANK YOU. Perfectly stated. All of the characters in the original (Jordy excluded) were Old Money aristocrats. They were dripping with devious intent, and got their comeuppance in the 1950s EC Style. Yet, they were memorable, and likable.

This, like Creepshow 2, is a few generations removed from the source material. That, combined with the budget and direction, make it feel like just about any other horror anthology with young, unlikeable characters, and half-achieved attempts at the lurid comic book aesthetic.

So, episode 5...

1st story was kind of long. It took up about 26 minutes of the episode. It was okay. Nothing real great.

Now the 2nd story, in the 18 minutes of a runtime that it has, was completely bat**** crazy. That is all I will say.

Overall, loving this season, I have to say though, Bob has been my favorite character.

The first story was the one time this season where I was just kinda checked out. I kept waiting for something to
[Show spoiler]deviate from the Monkey's Paw tale we all know frontwards and backwards...and it never came. Plus, the very deliberate pacing (not to mention the distracting CGI fire) was a weird fit for this story.

The second tale wasn't much of a story. It's just someone's idea for a gross-out gag, and it's
[Show spoiler]spoiled on the opening shot of the comic book panel introducing it.

Yeah, I didn't really care for this episode.

Just finished watching every episode released so far. I dig it for the most part. The biggest issue I have is that the low budget really shows in some areas. Additionally, the stories can be a bit predictable.

It's a fun series though. I like that it resembles the old school horror of the 80's and 90's. Really wish we could get more shows like this that tackle short horror stories, much like Tales from the Crypt. As far as I know there aren't any that are currently being made, other than this. Hoping for a second season, with a bigger budget!

The finale was, like most of the season, a little good, a lot of meh.

The first tale, about a weight loss center, was at least visually interesting in some of the stylistic choices, especially with the weight loss center itself and the promotions surrounding it. Predictable, as usual, but the payoff gets a little extra push at the end and it's harmless fun.

The final segment of the season, revolving around a Loch Ness Monster-style mythology, is the epitome of the series at its most autopilot-worst. Every single character and every story-beat was mind-numbingly predictable. The only real suspense
[Show spoiler]was in seeing if the big practical effects at the end would be a total embarrassment and, thankfully, said effects just ended up being more depressing than anything else. Okay, the effects were a little sad-funny too, in a pitying way.

The season overall? It's mainly just average. I liked half the stories and, more or less, just tolerated the rest of them. There were 2-3 stories which I really liked, but that's not enough to sell me on this current level of quality going forward. Hopefully, with more budget and resources, they can have better writing for a potential second season.

Just saw this on Amazon for a 5/19/20 release date. Unfortunately, so far it's listed as DVD only.

Finally got around to checking this out and watched the first season over the last few nights. I enjoyed it a lot, but I've always been a sucker for horror anthologies anyway.

My favorite stories were Gray Matter (although the ending was so chaotic and abrupt I don't know what was happening), The House of the Head, The Finger, The Man In the Suitcase, Lydia Layne's Better Half, Night of the Paw, and By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain.

I loved the use of practical effects and the varied tones; some stories were very dark and gory, while some where almost kid-friendly but in that '80s way where they still have some darkness to them. I had a lot of fun with the show. I remembered there were two holiday specials late last year, so I plan to watch those soon and am looking forward to season two.
