Default Fire Fly

Fire Fly was a much loved series I think Fox should realease the entire series along with the 1st Season of 24 when they start releasing TV shows in Blu.

Does any one know why Fire Fly was released by Fox but Universal got the rights to Serenity?

For people who don't know Serenity was a continuation of the story in Fire Fly. The reason Joss Whedon did a movie was he was planning on a Fire Fly Series but the series got canned after the first year.

It's a shame the movie is distributed by Universal. :-/

I borrowed it from my friend, it must be an early hd, the transfer is decent, but not up to today's quality. Still a great movie though.

Serenity was a launch day HD DVD

Remember the movie was shot on a relatively low budget.

Firefly is definately on Fox's short list, I'd be shocked if we don't see it in the next 12 months. It looks positively stunning on Universal HD

I've seen Serenity on the AVID output preview prints, the theatrical prints (in 3 different theaters), DVD and HD DVD

It may not be perfect, but I will say it's representative of the proper look of the film

It looks great.

I seem to remember reading that Universal's decision to green light a sequel to Serenity lies heavily with the sales figures of the newly released collector's edition. I picked it up last Tuesday not only to help support the Firefly series/movie but also in hopes that it looks amazing upscaled on my bluray system. The only reason I enjoyed Slither was because of Nathan Fillion.

Joss is going to use the sales numbers to pitch yes.

So please, buy the Serenity CE in large numbers

And that the UK encode was, ah, perfecter?

Ah well, I guess we can confidently wait the perfectest encode on Blu-ray.

Whedon didn't distribute Serenity with FOx as he was angry with them for prematurely cancelling Firefly.

Only half true. Yes he was angry

Fox owns Firefly lock stock and barrel

They kindly allowed him to shop it around as a "loaner", and Universal wanted it. They have the rights for 3 movies or 10 years, whichever comes first

Universal seems eager to bring title after title to an inferior format. I took a look at the release schedule, and it seems that they are pushing every title possible per week.

I not only hope for "Firefly" on Blu-ray (and if Universal ever switches, "Serenity" on Blu-ray obviously) but also "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" as well (and since they are both under Fox I'm sure that isn't a completely impossible idea).

I'll love to see Buffy and Angel on Blu-ray too as well. However, the first 2 seasons of Buffy were filmed on 16mm so it will look pretty grainy and somewhere softer than it would with 35mm. Still would look a lot better than DVD though. Don't count on them being in widescreen because Joss Whedon said that's not what the directors intended. They want to show it in its original framing.
