Default Star Trek: Voyager Documentary Planned for 2022

Star Trek: Voyager Documentary Starts Crowdfunding Campaign

455 Studios teased it for a while, and now it’s official. The team behind What We Left Behind – Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and many other Star Trek documentaries has officially launched a new crowdfunding campaign for a documentary celebrating the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Voyager. The project debuted today and has already passed its initial $150,000 funding goal. It will still last 31 days, and the final goal is to gather $300,000 to film the November Voyager reunion in London. Backers might expect to receive postcards, lapel pins, shirts, and Zoom virtual experiences, in addition to some exciting trips to Star Trek filming locations called “Away Missions,” among other things. Fans will have to donate $35 if they want to get it on physical media when ready. However, they can join the movement for as much as $5.

“It’s been over 25 years since Voyager first got lost in the Delta Quadrant and took us all on an incredible seven-year journey,” the producers wrote. “It is now time to revisit, celebrate, and fully explore what made this Star Trek series so special. The cast and crew of this groundbreaking show deserve the highest recognition, and with your help, we are going to make happen!

“We are still in the early stages of production with more interviews and support footage yet to be filmed. Once that is complete, Post-Production expenses will need to be covered such as editing, music, animation, color-correction, sound mixing and CBS/Star Trek footage licensing. The more we raise on this Indiegogo campaign, the more creative ways we have of making this documentary unique.”

According to the producers, the Star Trek: Voyager documentary will debut in October 2022. You can back the fundraising campaign on Indiegogo.

This is a way better series than people give it credit for.

It's got some great episodes.

It took a while to get going though, and it does have plenty of flaws. One, it's episodic nature in stark contrast to it's situation, and two, it wasted several characters as it focused on a core set in it's later seasons.

It's crying out for a honest documentary like the DS9 one, could give a much needed insight into what didn't work so well! So they've got my money.

I was about to get a photoshoot with the main cast, but due to corona it got postponed
I hope things will be alright by the end of the year or next year.

I'm definitely gonna crowdfund this! Thanks for the heads up

I was so looking forward to this show before it first aired, and tried to like it, but either the characters, or the actors, were completely offputting. I didn't care about or like any of them, with the exceptions of Robert Picardo and, later, Jeri Ryan.

I like some episodes but overall for me the criticism directed at it is fair. Easily the weakest entry in the franchise for me. But, all down to opinions of course and it does have its fans so happy for them that this being made. I just wonder if it will be sugar coated or warts and all. If Robert Beltran takes part might be worth watching just for whatever he has to say.

Might be better off just to wait. Shout ended up releasing the DS9 documentary with more bonus features the backers didn't get.

I contributed to the Deep Space Nine documentary crowdfunding and was very disappointed in how they handled everything as well as the final product. I won't be giving them any more money.

The backer edition has stuff the Shout doesn't, so it's not like the backer edition is worthless.

Plus, well, stating the obvious but if it wasn't for the backers there wouldn't be a Shout edition.

It is funded now, but the more they get the better it will be. Maybe HD footage like the Ds9 one.

Voyager might be my least favourite Trek series, but a good documentary about it would be well worth watching. I was disappointed with the DS9 doc (or at least, whoever edited it), but both the Chaos on the Bridge and the Spock documentary were great.

The documentary has a title now:

To The Journey: Looking Back at Star Trek: Voyager

Plus $900.000 have been reached so if CBS agrees all footage from the show that's going to be in the doc, is going to be remastered in HD.

I'd rather they get off their duffs and release Voyager and Deep Space Nine on Blu-ray.

I highly doubt the old effects files would be viable for today's software programs, so they'd have to recreate every scene with effects and re-edit every episode from scratch. In some ways, it would be an even bigger task than what was done with TNG...and CBS doesn't see the point with that show's Blu-Ray sales suffering.

This hasn't stopped shows like X-Files and Babylon 5 being remastered in HD. They can do a compromise with a mix of HD and upscaled effects. We shall not mention Buffy as that is an example of how not to do a HD remaster of any sort.
