We all know that there are some films that could be considered a masterpiece for some or terrible for others. Same applies to directors.
Name the one you like more out of them. My list: Movies: 1. The Dark Knight Rises 2. Eyes Wide Shut 3. The Game 4. Crash 5. Mulholland Drive Directors: 1. Christopher Nolan 2. Terrence Malick 3. David Cronenberg 4. Zack Snyder 5. Tony Scott |

How is Christopher Nolan divisive?
![]() Anyway, not as a person, but as a director, Joss Whedon has had a lot more hits than misses, but even in that department, he's had something of a checkered past (Atlantis, Alien: Resurrection, Buffy: the Vampire Slayer and Josstice League, though perhaps through no fault of his own on the latter). |

Whedon too, but that's because the novelty of Avengers wore off and AoU and JL were both mediocre. For example, Cameron gets 0.0000001% of the hate Nolan gets. There are a lot of people who hate TDKR and nitpick the crap out of it. Mulholland Drive is widely liked but I have seen a lot of criticism on it. Eyes Wide Shut is widely considered to be one of the worst Kubrick's films, funny enough i think that it's his best film, |

Victor Salva, who's admittedly done some really bad things, is a good filmmaker whose done his time and paid his "debt to society". I'll always love his first two Jeepers Creepers movies. I had no idea of his background until just a few years ago. His feature length directorial debut, Clownhouse is also really well done despite the horrible acts surrounding the film. It's also the film debut of Sam Rockwell. I have a fan made Blu-ray of it and have watched it a couple of times. I also remember Powder as a kid from the 90s; I haven't seen it since. It was partially filmed in my hometown and the reclusive star of the film still lives in the area. It has a really good mainstream cast as well:
Mary Steenburgen Sean Patrick Flanery Lance Henriksen Jeff Goldblum I just focus on the art and try to ignore the personal lives of the artists. "Separate the art from the artist". It's a slippery slope. I'm still going to watch Roman Polanski and Woody Allen films as well. |

While I really don't feel like going down the director rabbit hole, I do seem to like a lot of movies that people either love or hate. The one that really sticks out is the movie Freaked. I've never heard (or read) a single person say "it was okay". You love it or you hate it. I love it.

Dark Knight Rises I might not be a super fan of Nolan but I didn't really see a significant drop off in quality relative to the previous film, maybe lacking in quite as memorable a villain but otherwise pretty similar. Eyes Wide Shut I think you can see its kind of playing on being a little more conventional than previous Kubrick but I think that's part of why it works. The Game I actually prefer to Seven or Fight Club these days, there angstsy pre millennial tension has IMHO dated a little were as it ends up being a rather more subtle character study. Crash I never really took to be that similar to a lot of extremism in art-house around that time(or the early 00's) just because it feels like a "nice" film, actually cares about its characters even if the subject is extreme. |

They come of a a cult at times. I have not liked a film from Nolan since Inception I have yet to see Tenet and I have not liked the way he has gone after Warner Bros who are just trying to work though a pandemic.
