Can anyone confirm if it's essentially the same as the Mill Creek release?

I'd imagine it is. The DE version is also an option, but I can't find out much more the DE DVD is 4:3 OAR, maybe the Blu is too?

I still have busted Scandi DVD.

If its the same, wouldn't be surprised given its Mediumrare, then at the roughly £10.50 I paid for the Mill Creek it would be passable. But with the UK release selling at double that, it would be harder to overlook its fairly mediocre presentation (see the US review).

If the DE release is 4:3, that might indicate a different master? I'll maybe keeps an eye on that, see if the price drops.

Don’t buy this!

The DE release is the same, 16:9 garbage and the English DTS-HD audio mix (the only English track) is totally screwed on the 2nd disc, it’s unwatchable!

I missed the series myself but a friend in India has asked me to buy this as birthday gift for her 8 year-old daughter. The girl is very sweet and innocent for her age and I don't want to give her anything that's violent or contains swearing etc. Is this suitable?

Also, there are some negative reports about the US release BD; is the British one from MediumRare as bad or is it at least acceptably good?

It doesn't get too dark, but it is a fantasy based on fairytales. Violence and swearing is mild, but it's something a family should watch together, there's some suggestiveness and innuendo.

It boils down to what content they're used to, if they've watched things like Labyrinth, Enchanted, and some of the other Disney live-action features this will be similar.

I saw this when it was on Sky 1 years ago. I have no idea why it would be a '15' as it seemed very family friendly. I think there may have been 1 or 2 (non-brutal) headbutts, the likes of which wouldn't be deemed an issue by the bbfc at lower categories these days. It's 'PG' or '12A' material at most.

I can't find it on the BBFC website, but both the new DVD and Blu-ray are rated 15, not sure if that's for the "Making of". As usual the BBFC site is hopeless.

Thanks people.

To explain, I unknowingly played The Golden Compass for this little girl (we call her our God-granddaughter) last month and she was quite upset with the violence. She is very affectionate and has a rather mild disposition compared with most contemporary 8 year-olds.

How does The 10th Kingdom compare?

Bear in mind that the descriptions on IMDb can be a bit alarmist.

What's wrong with the audio? Is disc 1 & 3 ok?

Was there a consensus with the UK set? such a shame it's been badly treated.
