Default Breaking News in Yuba County (2021)

Story: Sue's husband goes missing and she becomes a local celebrity in the news. However, she soon finds herself in over her head, dodging cops and criminals, all while trying hide the the truth about her husband. This is an ALL-STAR cast with Alison Janney, Mila Kunis, Juliette Lewis, Regina Hall, Ellen Barkin, Wanda Sykes, Matthew Modine, Awkwafina and Directed by Tate Taylor.

Now up for PRE-ORDER for only $14.96 on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Breaking-News-County-Blu-ray-Digital/dp/B08W7R1FGL/ref=sr_1_3?crid=PQOE82IA9NWB&dchild=1&keywords=bre aking+news+in+yuba+county+movie&qid=1616125097&s=m ovies-tv&sprefix=Breaking+News%2Cmovies-tv%2C203&sr=1-3

I'm sure my opinion is slightly altered because I was a part of the background cast in several scenes, but none-the-less....here's my honest review after finally seeing the final cut today...

It's always fun to see an all-star cast come together for a film project. This cast is no exception. Allison Janney finally gets her well-deserved leading role as Sue Buttons in this small-town crime caper that goes wrong.

It's Sue's birthday, but no one has remembered, not her news reporting sister, Nancy (Mila Kunis), her cheating husband, Karl (Matthew Modine), nor any of her co-workers. After Sue catches her husband in an affair, he dies from shock, leaving Sue with an opportunity to finally get some long overdue attention after hiding his body and claiming he was kidnapped. However, the attention she draws comes from a suspicious and relentless cop (Regina Hall), local criminals (Awkwafina & Clifton Collins Jr.), the disgruntled mistress (Bridget Everett) and a flashy talk show hostess (Juliette Lewis) attempting to exploit her for a story. One wrong choice begins a domino effect of mishaps, mayhem and a trail of dead bodies.

Jimmi Simpson and Wanda Sykes team up to provide some comic relief and a madcap sub-plot as Sue's brother-in-law (Petey) and his boss (Rita) who set out to rescue Karl from the non-existent kidnappers.

The story is fun and the characters are engaging but it's difficult to label this adventure. It's promoted as a madcap comedy, but it's unexpected twists take a very dark turn and delivers a violent, dark, comic, crime-caper instead.

The performances are strong and memorable, but plot is a bit complicated and complex. All in all, it's a fun ride through Yuba County with Allison Janney at the wheel.

Parents be warned, the R rating is well earned for excessive language, brief nudity and violence.

Is this movie not coming to stores?
I see it’s $35+ in major stores if they even have it in stock which seems crazy high considering it was up for preorder for $15 on amazon

Yeah...I saw the Walmart web site now has the blu ray/digital code listed at $42.05 ((((who sets prices at .05???)))), the DVD/digital code (Walmart Exclusive) at $12.96. This is absurd.

Target has the bluray/digital for $35.99

Best Buy has it for $34.99

Amazon is already back up to $24.95

I ordered mine from Amazon when it dropped to $14.96.

I have not seen this in my local Walmart and to be honest, this is the weirdest treatment I've ever seen for a new release title that technically is a box office flop.

It has terrible reviews and so far, worldwide has made UNDER $100,000.

I was an extra in this film and we all had such high hopes for it, but dang.....it failed BIG TIME!

And WHO is gonna pay this ridiculous high price for a BARE BONES, NO SPECIAL FEATURES release? I mean....not even deleted scenes....and i KNOW there are plenty of them.

I couldn't find the Bluray anywhere, I just settled for the DVD/Digital. I liked the movie a lot and thought it was funny but I can live without a bluray now.

I got the DVD/Digital at my Walmart today. It was only $12.95 (I believe was the price)
I could not find a Bluray even though there is supposedly one out.

No, A lot of people thought it was Yuba, California, but it's actually Yuba, Kentucky.

But it was filmed in Natchez, Ms....all but one scene.

I'm curious about what other people thought about this film.

I'm in Canada, & this was released here this week by VVS Films as a "Walmart Select" title for $17.96CAN on blu-ray, cheaper on DVD. I hadn't heard of it, but it looked interesting so I picked up a copy when I was getting some groceries after work, & just watched it. I enjoyed it. It definitely is more of a black comedy caper film, & reminded me of a 90's movie like To Die For with it's sort of sarcastic look at the media.
There's no digital copy with the Canadian blu-ray version. It does include 23 minutes of soundbites from Alison Janney speaking about the film on set & 6 minutes of b-roll footage, which actually is pretty pointless. Except maybe as a record of what filming was like before Covid protocols became necessary.

Sadly, the American release has NO bonus features. That's why I can't figure out the extremely high price for this one. It's still listed around $34.99 in Walmart, Target, Best Buy & Amazon.

I was lucky to take advantage of a VERY temporary low price of $14.95 from Amazon for the bluray, but that must have only lasted for a couple of hours and it shot right back up.

If this film were a critically acclaimed smash hit....I might understand the high price...but sadly...it wasn't and so far, it's box office numbers are UNDER a hundred thousand.

Watched this last night. Thought it was ok but missed the mark a bit compared to what I expected from the trailers and a great cast. I think maybe it was a little too muddled and with some lapses in logic to get it to a greater level.

Casting was great but can’t quite get how Allison Janney and Mila Kunis are supposed to be sisters in this. Or even how Matthew Modine and his brother in the movie also have such a big, though not as big, age gap. I mean it may be possible but seemed just weird.

I think the script and direction were most to blame here. Seemed like with a few more tweaks the script could’ve reached its potential. Some scenes just seemed to happen out of the blue. Especially with the girl from Orange is the new Black who seemed to pop up a few times just watching tv where you don’t even know who the heck she is supposed to be.

Wanda Sykes, Alison Janney and an unrecognizable Ellen Barkin were all very good. Akwafina was ok but not quite as good as usual. The main cop was alright too but I thought he’d partner and the police chief were weak.

At the end of the day it had potential but I won’t be getting this on Blu and would have to give it a thumbs down.

Very well thought out and honest review. This was my first film to be a background actor and since this one, I've done 7 other projects. So, I was SO PROUD of this title....but then I saw it and sat back and went.....Hmmmm.....Well.....there's that.

Came here to find details about the Canada edition since it's in DeepDiscount's Blowout Bin for $11.28. Guess I'll pick it up since it's a good price and includes the EPK extra. Thanks, posters!

Amazon FINALLY has it down to $23.96, but for a bare-bones release of a critical dump of a movie...it's still too much.
