With the exception of Cassandra's Dream, Match Point and Wonder Wheel, all of his films in the 21st century are pretty light comedies, and by refusing to watch anything post-Aphrodite, you're definitely missing gems like Match Point, Blue Jasmine and the very popular Midnight in Paris.

Your loss.

Blue Jasmine is great. Mostly because of Cate Blanchett who’s one of the best actresses of her generation.

My favorite from the last 20 years are Melinda & Melinda, Magic in the Moonlight and Cafè Society.
I have really a soft spot for Cafè Society since it introduced me to Woody Allen.
And by being a "late" fan, his part of career I like less is the very beginning, until Love & Death.

I didn't even know about the Spanish DVD! Thanks, guys! I just ordered it.

Wasn't sure when I'd get to see this one.

Refusing is a strong word. I'm just not actively seeking them out because they don't look particularly interesting. And if they don't look interesting how is it my loss?

Today amazon.es reduced the price of the Spanish DVD from 14.99 EUR to 8.00 EUR.

I am still holding out for a Blu-ray release somewhere sometime, but nevertheless decided to snap up the DVD, just in case.

I'd add "Blue Jasmine" to the "dark" pile because it ends on a pretty unforgiving note.

I got the Italian blu-ray today. No forced subtitles.

There is one short sequence in Swedish that has Italian subtitles only.

Well, I'll be hoest. Saw a few months again, and it is definetely one of the worst Allen I've seen. Not of recent years, but ever

The idea is good (he'd made this in the 80s it would've been a masterpiece), but the execution is terrible. The characters are cartoonish, the lines forced.
Also in other films he has a tendency when speaking about art to fill any conversation with an endless slew of names and quotes, but this time it really got out of hand.
The film just doesn't flow.

Turns out a U.S. release was announced last month.

January 28th for limited release and PVOD.

EDIT: Whoops! Didn't realize Cremildo already posted about it.

The review states that this is likely his final film. Has there been word from Allen stating such? I mean, I get that he's old, but he still seems to be in good health and has never made mention (not to my knowledge, anyway) of ever stopping. And, obviously, I know financing isn't as easy as it once was, but it seems there are still non-US financiers who are willing to pony up the relatively meager sum for his films.

He's been trying to make another movie in Europe for a couple of years now (there's even a thread bout it here). It's pure baseless conjecture from the reviewer.

Manoel de Oliveira made 2010's The Strange Case of Angelica when he was 101, so here's to hoping Allen can live a bit longer.

Reviews for this are pretty bad. He is really scraping if Wallace Shawn and Gina Gershon are the most prominent actors he can get after all the scandals

I'm pretty far left, but one thing that always blows my mind is that actors worked with Allen for many, many years after Dylan's accusation was very well known -- and they then later denounced their work saying they had no clue. Haha. I mean, that's kind of insulting to any thinking person's intelligence. I would have much greater respect for the actors if they instead issued a statement such as, "I didn't take Dylan's accusation as seriously as I should have. I now understand how my working with Allen was hurtful to both her and survivors of abuse." Full stop. The end. But to instead pretend they had no clue is beyond idiotic.

I mean, I was well aware of his relationship with Soon-Yi and Dylan's accusation just as a casual movie fan. How could someone in the industry supposedly have no clue?
