Canada Toronto Libraries will NOT support Blu-ray

Official word from the top of the Toronto Public Library is that the system will NOT support blu-ray and carry the discs in their branches.
The reason:
Blu-ray is just a fad.
The director who makes these decisions partially based her decision on (to paraphrase) 'I go into Blockbuster and there is only a small section for blu-ray.'
She is hoping Blu-ray will just "blow over."

Well it's good to know that Toronto's library is so in-touch with today's technology.

Didn't you know? Downloading is the thing, blu-ray will be off the scene in about 2-3 years for sure.

So much for being a progressive city. Oh well, the rest of Canada will make up for it.

I'll avoid getting into a mud-slinging match with a Montrealer.

Gary

(I was born in Montreal, like a large number of anglophones in Toronto)

How many times are such things linked through history?

Moving pictures are just a fad
Talkies are just a fad
TV is just a fad

Everytime, the premise is pushed by someone with some vested interest it being so (i.e. false hope).

It all depends where you're comparing it too.

Q: Is Toronto more progressive than Calgary or Amsterdam?
A: I won't insult your intelligence.

My wife was born in Montreal, so no mud slinging your way from here either.

There isn't a city in the world more progressive than Amsterdam. I know, I was born there!

Nice! I still have some fond and dirty memories from my short stay there. OK, so Toronto hasn't been progressive since it was called York, but I still hope the Torontonians have a pleasant trip to the dark ages.

Q: can women legally walk around topless in Montreal?

It's the law in Ontario, it's a choice, it's about equality, it's progressive, a human rights issue. No need for offence.
