The problem with that release is that it is region B locked. And before you say "go region free", I and many other people don't want to spend more money on a player just to play a foreign disc.

2 possibilities: They'll either do an excellent scan of the original 35mm negative, or a cruddy filmout from a 2K DI. I don't actually think Saw had a DI though, so hopefully it will indeed be a negative scan.

Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision confirmed by the trailer.

Quote:
pawning one of the most successful horror franchises in history, James Wan’s directorial debut returns to terrify audiences once again when SAW arrives on 4K Ultra HD™ Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray™ and Digital) May 11 from Lionsgate. Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Kiss the Girls), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon franchise, Jumanji: The Next Level, The Color Purple), Monica Potter (The Last House on the Left, Along Came a Spider, TV’s “Wisdom of the Crowd”), Leigh Whannell (Insidious franchise, Cooties), and Tobin Bell (Mississippi Burning, The Firm, Manson Family Vacation) star in a film that Jordan Crucchiola (Vulture.com) says “…holds a deserving place in horror-film history.” Experience four times the resolution of full HD with the 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, bringing entertainment to life through ultra-vivid picture quality. When compared to a standard picture, Dolby Vision can deliver spectacular colors never before seen on a screen, highlights that are up to 40 times brighter, and blacks that are 10 times darker. Available for the very first time in this absolutely stunning format, the SAW 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack will include audio commentaries, featurettes, and more, and will be available for the suggested retail price of $22.99.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

I don't think the original blu-ray included any special features, so the one included with the 4K release may be an updated disc. I have the region-free release from Kinowelt that included the special features from the DVD and a DTS-HD HR 7.1 audio track.

Talk about a massive coincidence.
Just this morning I was hoping for the first Saw film to get a 4K release.
I’ll be buying day one without hesitation. One of my favorite movies.

Very cool, I’ll pick up when it’s under $10. Used BD copies have been $1.50 for a very long time.

I don't want to upgrade unless they release the whole series. Otherwise I'll stick to blu.

Only the 1st 3 or 4 were good so I’m good with just this. Hopefully the others are released individually.

this is one of those few franchises where i actually prefer to just own the first entry. this was pretty mind-blowing in the theaters when it came out but i was less impressed w/ everything that came after it, esp all the toture porn imitators that it spawned. still really dig this first flick, tho

Saw was fully shot and finished on film. Saw II-VI were shot on film and finished with a DI.

Been rewatching these recently, a very underrated horror franchise. I appreciate how they did actually put effort into the storylines rather than just rehashing the same thing over and over like a lot of other horror franchises.

True however, it got a theatrical re-release in 2014 for it's 10th anniversary, and I remember reading it getting a new 4k scan(can't find it now tho ).
So they are probably using that for this UHD release.

The continuity and attention to detail from film to film is second to no other horror franchise.

Yeah only a few threads are available with that information, but the main source of the news is now gone and I remember that many articles covered this news back in 2014.

Which is totally fine. You can take a seven-year-old 4K scan and make it look great with proper use of HDR and Dolby Vision.

I’m curious if Lionsgate will go back to the negatives and do 4K scans of the sequels (II - VI) that we’re shot on film.
