The Pegasus DVDs linked to in the bottom are going to be garbage, aren’t they?

Look as if this may actually be released on 22 March. Amazon list booklet and extras.

That date has been there for months. Other retailers have cancelled.
Will be amazed if it turns up on that date. Amazon will probably only twig once the date passes and no stock.

They failed, please just give Criterion the rights for it over here so I can save some pennies.

Doubtful that would happen: if Disney aren't supplying the master material and aren't doing any new licensing deals, they're not going to amend an existing contract for Criterion.

What a surprise - not! Amazon now list the date as 27 September along with other delayed Signal One titles.

It's just beyond pathetic now.

The new owners need to be honest and state it isn't coming from them.

At the moment, with the constant pushbacks and lack of communication it’s like death by a thousand cuts. Thank Christ CC announced their version!

I don't know why anyone would torture themselves by looking, it's a fine movie but there are plenty of other fish in the sea.

Because some of us got a bit OCD over replacing the Fox Film Noir DVD 'series' and although Nightmare Alley isn't the best one of that 'set' it had some announced bells and whistles with it that would have made a nice addition.

I'm happy(ish) to settle for the Criterion by way of compensation. It also makes me wonder what other licences Criterion snagged before Disney took their ball away..

When I eventually pick up the movie on Blu-ray I am not getting rid of the DVD. Not particularly OCD, however, it would grind my gears to look at my shelf and see a full set minus number six, explains why I still have Kiss of Death, Boomerang and a few others on DVD.

I haven't got rid of any of mine even though I have all the ones so far released on Blu.

It looks ok, quite good for a film transfered from a exibition print:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Night...8/#Screenshots

Strange that on DVD Beaver it look just a bit waxy in some scenes, or perhaps it was just my impression...

I heard about some people on Home Theater Forum complained about contrast issues. But in the late 40's print stocks was already good enough to get good dynamic range and, unless the print wasn't processed right (as photography director wished) the print should represent the movie as it was intented.

We get used, for many films, to had memories from transfers from dupes, or transfers from old telecine machines (which had poor dynamic range to extract information from film), and how happy we used to get when a restoration from camera negative arrives, reveling much more details in shadows and highlights. But today modern telecine&scanners can get all dynamic range from good original prints, and in many cases creating very decent tranfers even from movies without camera negative or good fine grains.

So, are we demanding too much from grayscale? Demanding to it be flater than intented by photography director?
Or are people demanding flater grayscale because many digital TVs today tends to create black crushing and clipped whites?

dvdbeaver has inaccurate caps for virtually all their comparisons. Useful as a general reference point but that's about it.

No, you misread it - it's actually the September of 122022 A.D., though there may be further slight delays.

Anybody else feel justified now in paying a bit extra for importing the Criterion release?
