Default Oasis Knebworth 1996 (2021)

Quote:
A quarter of a century after one of the most legendary concerts in British rock history, a documentary is in the works.

Noel and Liam Gallagher are set to exec produce a feature film about Knebworth, the famed event that took place in August 1996, attracted some 250,000 fans over two nights, and saw Britpop icons Oasis — who the year before had released What’s The Story (Morning Glory) — at the peak of their powers.

Jake Scott — who has made music videos for Oasis, R.E.M., U2, The Verve and The Rolling Stones — will direct the film, which is set to be released theatrically in the U.K. later this year to celebrate the concert’s 25th anniversary.

“It’s a story driven entirely by the music, a rock and roll experience, told in the moment, like a visual stream of consciousness that is built around the extensive archive footage from the event,” said Scott, who insisted there would be “no on-camera interviews or unnecessary celebrity recollections.”

The film will be produced by RSA Film, with the Gallagher brothers exec producing. It will be financed and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment and released theatrically by Trafalgar Releasing.

Producers claim that Knebworth deserves its place alongside the cinematic concert documentaries such as Let It Be, Monterey Pop and Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones, the tragic Altamont film that documents the turning point that signified the end of the 1960s.

Just think of all the bland, shit, dad-rock chancers that were inspired by this landmark mono-browed event. Jesus.

It's no more influential on today's music scene than The Beach Boys Knebworth gigs in the 80s are.

I've seen Oasis in performance several times, but my memorable one was the Reading Music Festival in 2000 and I specifically got beaned in the back of the head with a bottle of water - good times !!

Anybody got a link for the 2CD/DVD version at Amazon? Looks like it's a hardbound book version, was going to order that with the Blu-ray, but I can only find the standard 2CD edition.

I am very envious. I would kill to see one of their shows.

The Gallagher brothers need to drop their feud and get back together. Things aren't the same without them.

they really aren't - although I will say I prefer Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds compared to Liam's band.

I'm personally the opposite.

I've really enjoyed Liam's solo output and, in my opinion, he hasn't sounded this good in forever.

Liam Gallagher in 1996

Liam Gallagher in 2001

Liam Gallagher in 2005

Liam Gallagher in 2009

Liam Gallagher in 2014

Liam Gallagher in 2017

Liam Gallagher in 2021 (+ Bonehead in his touring band)

Someone tell me he hasn't sounded the best he has since the 90s.

What I'd give for them to reunite. Ugh.

I agree.

Still excited for this doc.

Kind of surprised they are both involved.

Figured this would be more of a Noel thing.

Here's to a reunion tour.

as to the whole Blur vs. Oasis 'thang' - there's an entire episode dedicated to it on Netflix's series: "This Is Pop!"

Ironically considering John Squire famously guested at the Knedworth show I'd say the Roses have in the years since take back a lot of the status Oasis had at the time.

While on the subject of The Stone Roses I was at that infamous and embarrassing last festival appearance at Reading in 1996 - oh...my...god - It was like watching a train wreck in slow motion - watched twenty minutes until slinking off to watch Underworld instead

The lineup for the Oasis Knebworth show was pretty eccletic and interesting: The Bootleg Beatles, The Chemical Brothers, Ocean Colour Scene, Manic Street Preachers, and Prodigy.

I did not. There were a couple showings near me but the weather was crappy and I didn't feel like going out.

I'm really hoping it comes to iTunes, whether it be before or after the physical release in November.
