Found an online version to watch last night and I surprisingly really liked it. I pre-ordered the blu in hoping for at least a small uptick in video quality but not holding my breath

I have this on DVD, but totally missed that there was a Blu-ray coming. I remember coming across it on IMDb back in the mid-2000s when I was a teenage—it seemed like such an enigma. I finally watched it a few years ago, and I really liked it. Definitely a product of its time, but it has some very eerie images throughout, and the webcam setup was truly innovative in 2002. It's a great movie to watch in the fall—super atmospheric. The official website has been up and running for around 20 years now. I just visited it and they've revamped it, probably in anticipation of this release.

For a second, I was thinking someone made a Dark Shadows found footage movie.

. . . .Now that I think about it, that sounds kind of awesome!

For some reason, no one ever mentions The Den even though I think it's the best of the bunch. Yes, you should absolutely enjoy Collingswood. It was really hard to come by back in the day, and I paid a pretty penny for the DVD. It made my list from the top 15 found footage films thread a few years ago, but I'd actually rank it higher now upon revisiting.

I love webcam- and social-media-based movies, so I was interested in seeing The Collingswood Story since it's an early example from the days of dial-up internet access, but it turned out to be more academically interesting to me than purely enjoyable.

To me, the most fascinating aspect of the movie was its view of the internet and video conferencing at the turn of the century. The video chat interface is really primitive looking, the phones have cords, and the participants seem puzzled/dazzled by the new video-chat technology. The computer-screen action is a fun reminder of what the internet was like 20 years ago, which is something you don't often see in movies from that period, and a telephone psychic (remember Psychic Friends Network?) plays a prominent part.

For the longest time, the movie seems like two people just talking, and the ending is really derivative of Blair Witch Project. I appreciated how creative and influential The Collingswood Story is but probably wouldn't recommend it to others unless you are, like me, really into found-footage movies and their history.

Agree - this may not appeal to everyone but it's a great look into internet life in the early 00's. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a little more well made than I thought it would be.

Default No Dark Shadows Here

I was hoping this was a film related to Dark Shadows. I guess not.
