the 5 has a 18 month warranty. the 4 has a 12 month

the 5 comes with a piano black *shiny* finish
the 4 comes with a flat black *non shiny* finish

the 5 i believe comes with PiP/Pop
the 4 does not.

I was wondering the same thing when they were on the SonyStyle Website. You can do a comparision of the two and see the difference on the site.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...ategoryId=563#

It looks like the only difference is the warrenty and RS 232 control. I want the XBR4.

I hope this helps.

I work for sony and i get this question all the time. But the only difference between them is their bezel. The br5 has a piano gloss black finish and the br4 is a black matte finish.

Good to see 120Hz as well for 5:5 pulldown with 1080p/24 sources

Personally I think the new 50" KURO plasma 1080p from Pioneer is better than any of the televisions that Sony makes, even though they are freaking sweet televisions and I certainly wouldn't say no to one.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...423263,00.html

Accepts 1080p/24 and has 72Hz 3:3 pulldown to eliminate judder.

In stock and available for $3495 from Plasma Concepts.

That's an amazing price for this ultimate movie watching set.

http://www.plasmaconcepts.com/plasma...0FD/PD791.html

The 60" is only $4495!

no. but ive compared the 81 to the xbr4 and sony is better. By quite a bit. Also samsung made a huge mistake of not making their most expensive lcd 120hz. those fools.

The plasmas have glare, thats the only negative in my opinion. Lcds good if windows are directly across from tv.

Default But wait...

according to an online reviewer (google "xbr4 review"), when tested to see if the XBR4 auto-sensed 24fps source and upconverted to 60 using the 120Hz frame interpolation, the XBR4 failed, as did most other 2007 models. Just so you know.

True.

http://hdguru.com/?p=131

Quote:
The 3:2 cadence test determines if the set’s video processor properly identifies film-based 24fps content and converts it to 60fps (in this and in most 120Hz sets the processor then interpolates and creates an intermediary frame to produce double the frame rate).

This Sony, like most of the 75 2007 models the HD Guru™ tested this year, failed the 3:2 cadence test. Failure results in degraded resolution and/or visible artifacts. Unlike the de-interlace test, where switching picture modes affected the result, the KDL-46XBR4 failed to identify and convert 24fps film-based signal in all picture modes. Silicon Optix’s HQV HD test disc (Blu-ray edition) provided both 3:2 cadence and 1080i de-interlace tests).

You can go to either sonystyle.com and do a comparison or go to crutchfield.com and do a comparison. There is not much difference but the XBR 5 has a few more options. I myself am waiting for the new 70" SXRD XBR it is going to be sweet.... I'm afriad of pixels going out on a flat LCD I've already seen that happen to a new Bravia in Circuit City and that one pixel stands out like an eye sore. I have 20/10 vision in both eyes due to recent Lasik surgery so you can imagine how it hurts my eyes....

The SXRD all I gotta do is replace the bulb years down the road and I'm good as new...

But with the Samsung, you get LED backlighting which results in a higher contrast ratio as well as black levels that trounce any CCFL-backlight LCD TV out there.

So in this case, the Samsung wins.

I thought Sony co-owns Samsung's LCD panel factory, and so the XBRs are the same as the Sammys. Link

Theoretically.

I've seen some not so steller reviews on the first Samsungs with the LED backlighting.

Yes.

By the way, it's already in the owners thread. I'll try to add more to the FAQ section (that's what all the "reserved for future use" posts are for ).
