USA The Mod Squad (the original series)

Am interested in getting VEI's complete series DVD set of the original Mod Squad TV series, but I wanted to ask about CBS/Paramount's North American DVD releases of the series. How many seasons did they release, and were they remastered/transferred to HD?

Have checked Amazon.com and Deep Discount since starting this thread, and on Deep Discount they have a listing each for the Complete Collection set. I think the more recent release is the boxset with the discs in sleeves (like what was done with VEI's Promised Land complete collection boxset), with the deluxe edition boxset the earlier release (the picture on the Deep Discount listing page suggests it's an identical design to the label's Barnaby Jones deluxe edition boxset (a tea caddy-style boxset with each season in it's own separate DVD case).

Rather than start a new thread I am posting here...

I have a question about The Mod Squad Complete series box sets, hoping someone here can help.

I see the 2017 release is only 20 discs vs the two 2013 box sets 39 discs.
Obviously the 20 disc set is much less with fewer discs and cheaper packaging but my main concern is cramming too many episodes on the discs.

Is it worth spending the extra $$ for the 39 disc sets considering the age of the show? Can anyone comment on the PQ of either set?

Have only done this with VEI's release(s) of The Mod Squad so far (may do it with the series McMillan & Wife and The Sentinel, but with the former, when searching for the show on Deep Discount there are a LOT of listings which makes it a bit confusing), but I decided to collect each of the five seasons of The Mod Squad separately (from DD) because of the total number of discs altogether.

The more recent TV series VEI have been releasing, it appears they're not doing what they used to do where there was a deluxe packaging boxset release, followed by a slimline release with less discs, as well as making the seasons in the deluxe packaging set available separately. Now it's a large plastic case (with slipcover) with the discs in sleeves placed in the centre of the right-hand side inside the case.

The Mod Squad is one of the older TV series I've been meaning to start watching sometime this autumn (was a bit distracted by "Halloween Horror Month").

Apologies if I've made this answer to your question confusing, but it's not easy to condense down to a short reply. Hope it's been of some help.

Thanks Ocean. I know what you mean about the deluxe packaging, we have the big Barnaby Jones box set. When I bought cannon I picked up the slipcase box that houses all five seasons in individual cases.

I do see a used 39 deluxe box set on ebay for around sixty bucks and several of the 39 disc slipcase box sets are listed as well. I figure going from 39 to 20 dvds is pretty significant, there has to be a compromise on quality even thought it's an old show and I certainly don't expect HD PQ.

USA Reunion TV film The Return of the Mod Squad

Who owns the rights to the reunion TV film The Return of the Mod Squad? Unless I'm having a senior moment, I don't believe it was included as an extra in any of VEI's DVD season sets of the television series.
