A New Way to Play

Just as we hope that the Skull of Siren Song will encourage competitive play, we recognize that for some players, a quieter, more independent experience can be preferable. Rare is also planning to introduce an offline solo mode with the March update. “You won’t need Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus,” says Neate. “If you just want to come and play on your own, you’ll get to play Safer Seas as a solo player so you can experience all of the Tall Tales content and all of the progression through the companies. It’s another way to fall in love with the game before thinking ‘maybe I wanna go get that subscription and start playing multiplayer’.”

Do I get the game for free on Battle.net if I already own it?

Existing players will not receive an entitlement to a free Battle.net copy. However, crossplay breaks down barriers by enabling new Battle.net players to crew up easily with existing players on Xbox, PC and PlayStation®5. (Additionally, Sea of Thieves supports Xbox Play Anywhere allowing for a digital copy purchased on Xbox or Windows 10 to be used on Battle.net, and vice-versa.) Alternatively, Battle.net players who are subscribed to PC Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can link their Game Pass accounts to play the standard Sea of Thieves edition through Battle.net as part of that subscription.
