Why do certain Blu's default to a 'lesser' sound quality???
I popped in Blackhawk Down for the first time tonight and the audio track just wasn't doing it for me.. After a couple minutes I checked the audio and noticed setting 1 was for Dolby Digital... I switched over to setting 2, which is PCM 5.1, and the difference was night and day.. Is there a reason they do this? I think i remember the dark knight being the same way.. I bet there are alot of people out there see "Dolby" on their screen, and assume its the best choice |

Interestingly, The Dark Knight defaults to Dolby Digital, and not the TrueHD track.
Most other BDs with lossless audio will default to that option, which is not a problem for equipment which doesn't decode it, because it will simply move down to the either DD in the case of Dolby Digital TrueHD, or DTS in the case of DTS-HD Master Audio. |

If Warner movies would go to the intial root menu instead of starting the movie immediately, it would allow people to change the audio and choose subtitles. It is a problem for non-English speaking people and hearing-impaired people. Some people are not even aware that Warner titles go to Dolby Digital and assume that they have watched the movies with the most recent HD codec. Last edited by Big Daddy; 05-13-2009 at 03:52 AM. |

I was wondering the same thing for a lil while now. I noticed it on TDK blu ray and some others. The other day I bought Batman and the default track was DD not HD. I am wondering how many people have the capability for HD audio, but aren't aware they need to change it. Another bit of an issue I have is that for Batman, I couldn't find anything in the "menu" to change to HD audio. I simply used the audio button on the PS3 remote, but the lack of option in the menu could be frustrating to some users I would think.

I would of thought that the default track would be HD by now and if your system can't process that then it would just drop down to DD or DTS. Thanks |

On a side note, the DD track on I Am Legend is still very, very good. But that's not really the point, is it? ![]() |
