Default Universal Studios boss deals Blu-ray death blow (lol, not really!)

I just ridiculed this FUD title on AVS.

What deathblow?

Nothing new here. No studio support is going to change, one way or the other, until after the 4th quarter sales figures come down.

I fully expect Universal to start supporting BD sometime in 2007 if everything goes the way I think it's going to...

Frankly: Universal isn't this important. They need to get over themselves.

The 90 percent support already on BD is far greater than they are.

What a horse bleep article. Did the writer just crawl out from under a rock? When has universal not been with HD-DVD?

Yeah once again the author wildly exaggerates his article's title. That said, Blu-ray is just as strong as it was yesterday and has just as promising of an outlook as it had then. What this article does confirm is that Universal still believes HD DVD will win the format war and that they are highly unlikely to support BD any time soon.

Those bastards!

Those bastards!

Money talks, and bull#$%^ walks.

Universal is enjoying their 15 minutes of fame. Possibly suffering from delusions of grandeur.

Basically, they know the pretense of a format war rests on them. Toshiba and MS must be promising them the world outright at this rate.

It's real simple: Barring something ridiculous, when the PS3 sales figures come through, when the BD standalone player sales figures come through, when the software sales figures come through from Christmas in early 07...I think it's going to be clear to Universal that they may as well start supporting both formats and make more money.

The 25,000 paltry HD-DVD players out there right now ain't big enough.

Damn, they really must be angry about UMD is all I have to say.

This won't last. Mark my words. It's just talk and sabre rattling.

The only deathblow that will happen is the day Universal starts supporting both formats. That's the end of the format war at that second because that means BD has 100 percent studio support.

Everyone knows it. I think Universal has probably been bribed and everything else under the sun, but none of that will matter after the holidays this year.

They want to make money and sell titles and sell discs. They're going to be fools if they ignore Blu-Ray after this year is out. FOOLS!

90 percent BD studio support > Universal.

They need to get over themselves.

Default More FUD

Here is another article right up this alley...deliberately misinforming people...

http://www.igniq.com/2006/09/ps3s-bl...d-to-fail.html

No mention that Paramount, Warner, New Line Cinema, and the Weinstein company are all BD backers, but they do intentionally make it appear that only Fox and Disney are in the Blu-ray camp. Wow, such crap.

And yet you'll see these crazed, paranoid fanboys making threads on certain forums about how there's this big conspiracy against HD-DVD and the rest of it.

Yeah if anything, and oddly enough, there seems to be a renewed conspiracy against Blu-ray. I take this as a sign that those supporting HD DVD acknowledge that Blu-ray is improving and they are becoming more and more worried with each bit of positive news that comes out.

When I see this much obvious desperation already starting to show...it speaks for itself.

HD-dvd has been ever increasingly reliant on FUD, misinformation, bashing the competition, and just general smoke, mirrors, and misinformation.

They really must be feeling the ground trembling as we approach the 4th quarter of this year. I know I'm starting to.

Whenever I see desperation like this show up, it sends me a clear message.

All it means is that Universal is a long way off from getting my money outside of rentals. I'd sooner buy whatever movies of theirs end up on Blu-ray in foreign markets. They're bound to end up on BD somehow either through Japan, Korea or Hong Kong when they get around to putting discs out.

Most retarded title EVER!

More like "Universal Keeps HD-DVD's Hopes Alive by Not Releasing on Blu-ray".

"Death Blow to Blu-ray"? Please.

By contrast, if Universal does release on BD, we might see a title "Universal Deals HD-DVD Death Blow"!

Ugh. The only news worthy part is Universal's continued support with HD-DVD. Sad really. It's no death blow more like "Business as usual."
