Weird, I was just having the same problem on one of my PS3's. I recently reset my router, because I was tired of my cable company trying to control it (they set their own user name and password, and I would have to call them whenever I wanted to hook a new device up to the router... I think they do this so you can't change your own settings, and open up ports).

Anyway, since doing that, everything was working fine except this one PS3 (my other PS3 is hardwired, so that explains why that one was fine, but all my laptops are working fine).

I'll have to try manually inputting the DNS servers, and hope that works.

What's weird is it let me download the firmware update, but you just can't log into the PSN.

This just happened to me. Unplug your router and wifi unit for 2-3 min. That got me back online!

This has been occurring to me on a daily basis for the past week and it seems to just come and go regardless of my rebooting my router.

HOW TO FIND YOUR DNS SERVER

OPEN UP YOUR PS3 PORTS

create a static IP for your ps3
instead of the last step of enabling port you can use the ps3 static ip you created and insert THAT IP INTO THE DMZ SECTION....then enable dmz
enabling DMZ will open up every port to the static ip that you direct it to

*if you disable DMZ and its NOT the ps3 static ip....your pc will get hacked
only the ps3 static ip goes into DMZ ip address

Exact same for me - it's been happening off and on for the past few weeks (about 50% of the time it fails). It has nothing to do with the settings IMO - it's simply the network on Sony's end isn't that robust or they're doing some other stuff we don't know about IMO. Maybe we're getting what we pay for?

For me just retrying 10-20 times right in a row and it'll eventually get in. Annoying but good enough for me.

This happens to me on occasion; I just keep trying. It usually only takes three or four tries to get connected. I tend to agree that this is something on Sony's end, as I change nothing and still get on. Could it be high traffic?

I restored my Linksys router settings to default and updated the firmware. It's working fine for now.

I'm having the same freakin' problem. And I don't want anyone to give me that techno gibberish. For all I know, it might ruin my connection to the computer and all.

Update: Its alright folks, I'm online now. No need to fiddle with anything.

You do not have the solution as its Sony doing something with their networks because it is happening to a large amount of people who have never had this issue before. Also because its off and on issue that only recently started to occur.

I appreciate you doing research and then throwing it into our idiot faces claiming to be our savior!

sony is doing something with their networks?? any proof?

maybe this update is going to FORCE people to finally clean up their connection and not just 'plug and play'.
the 'plug and play' people ruin the online game. they lag everything down.
now is the time to fix your settings.

open up all the ports = the solution.....very simple yet people wont do it AND they keep complaining!

I kept meaning to google "PS3 DNS error" this weekend and see if it was just my setup. I already have that type2 connection and my PS3 in the DMZ, but those suggestions from DonRSD are legit if you think you have a crappy connection.

That only may work if you were having this problem before a few weeks ago.
