Wow! Isn't this with WB since it's New Line?

EDIT: See Universal logo, that answers my question! Cool to see a Severin deal with Universal!

Was this a drunken dare type of bid or does someone at Severin truly want this film on Blu-ray?

David Gregory loves it. Says it's a close second behind Blood for Dracula as a bucket list title he's always wanted to release. He also loves Rik Mayall, so given that this is distributed by Universal as well and David Gregory spoke with Simon Pegg recently (I think so, not 100% sure on this, could be making it up) it might also be coming.

Already have the UK import but I'll be curious how this one compares. Used to watch this a whole lot as a kid.

Wonder if it will be the same transfer from the UK disc, it does seem to port over the commentary and special features.

What was once called “fiendish” (Orlando Sentinel), “an obnoxious boil” (Washington Post) and “easily one of the worst films I’ve ever seen” (Gene Siskel) is today hailed as “genius” (Junkee), “a feminist masterpiece” (Purple Revolver) and “an unapologetically weird classic” (NME): With her adult life falling apart, a distraught woman (Phoebe Cates) accidentally unleashes her imaginary childhood friend Drop Dead Fred – the late great Rik Mayall of THE YOUNG ONES in his sole U.S. comedy feature – to wreak booger-flicking, poo-smearing vengeance on those who’ve wronged her. Marsha Mason (THE GOODBYE GIRL), Tim Matheson (NATIONAL LAMPOON’S ANIMAL HOUSE) and Carrie Fisher co-star in this “untouchable post punk classic” (Den Of Geek) from the executive producer of HIGH FIDELITY and THE BIG LEBOWSKI, now scanned in 2K with all-new Special Features for the first time ever in America.

Special Features:
  • Booklet With New Text Interview With Actress Phoebe Cates
  • Audio Commentary With Director Ate De Jong
  • A Conversation With Director Ate De Jong And Producer Paul Webster
  • Imaginary Friends: Interviews With Co-Writers / Executive Producers Anthony Fingleton & Carlos Davis
  • Mischief Makers: Interviews With Visual FX Artists Doug Beswick, Peter Kuran, Kevin Kutchaver, Paul Gentry And Makeup FX Artist Christopher Johnson
  • Memories Of Snot Face: Interview With Actress Ashley Peldon
  • Deleted Scenes And Outtakes

  • Aspect ratio: 1.85:1
  • Audio: English Stereo

We can no longer put Severin in a box I guess. If I owned a boutique label I'd be putting out some of my favorites even if they weren't the typical titles the label put out.

You must mean in the US, because it’s been out.

Great announcement and I saw this on Severin Films Facebook page earlier and awesome news

I read Severin Films Facebook yesterday and they posted about Bridget Fonda never Blu-ray before in the US. And no idea Bridget Fonda uncredited role in Drop Dead Fred. I seen it long time ago in the 1990s and I seen it on VHS. This movie is so funny film and one day for me

RIP Rik Mayall and Carrie Fisher.

Severin has been hitting it lately! First MGM and now a Universal deal.

BTW, Drop Dead Fred was a Polygram production that New Line released theatrically in the US and Rank in the UK. IVE/Artisan released it on video in the US, but that was a licence deal that just expired.

DDF was one of the pre-1996 Polygram titles that MGM did not obtain, so Universal aquired worldwide distribution rights. Its been streaming for a while and the UK BD used Universals transfer, so I assume Severin's 2k scan will look quite different to the 2011 era scan.
