The sequel, maybe. I wouldn't bet on anything else, well, maybe Avengers, if all the other lead-ins meet Iron Man level success.

if spider man 4 does well and makes up for part 3, i think part 5 will break it.

either that or possibly the 2nd part of book # 7 for Harry Potter.

that is if the dark knight sequel doesn't 1st.

i dont think any movie this year has a shot in hell at dethroning it
transformers 2 had the best shot at getting close (dont think it would have beat it anyway though) but it is opening on a tuesday at midnight, so it will have been out for two full days before the weekend, which will probably lower the total weekend boxoffice quite a bit

i doubt spiderman 4 does it after the hate towards spiderman 3

iron man 2 won't do it either imo, the first made 98ish, so i think this one will probably pull in around 120-130opening weekend

i wouldn't think harry potter either, because the opening weekend grosses for harry potter films are hovering around 100million, but the final movie could possibly out do tdk's final box office tally with the proven success of the franchise
the series has averaged over 800million worldwide per film with 2 or 3 in the top 10 worldwide grosses

Avengers, MAYBE if Cap/Thor do really good and give it a great lead in

dark knights sequel could possibly do it depending on the trailers/marketing/reviews being as good or better than TDK's was

besides those two i can't think of any that could realistically beat the 158million mark (unless ticket prices go up ALOT)

I have to say Batman 3 or The Hobbit.

LOTR Return of The King was an unexpected one to pass the billion mark so i have some faith the hobbit can have the same pulling power.

Possibly Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen but probably not. Iron Man 2, The Avengers and the next Spider-man definitely have the best chance until the next Batman film as long as Nolan is back.

Edit: Also, depending on the hype, James Cameron's Avatar might have a shot as well

I doubt any movie will break the records this year. Looking back at 2008, WB started to hype up TDK form January...and I saw lots of people were REALLY hyped...This year its May already..i don't see that much hype rising...

If anything Transformers 2 has the highest chance of breaking its record.

As for future films..I think maybe Ironman 2 (depending on the hype; show off all those suits; show action scenes..etc) or the Avengers movie if Ironman 2/Cap/Thor movies does well.

Transformers will reach about 95-105M opening weekend.

Avengers
Captain America
Harry Potter 7: Part 2

Those are the 3 movies with the highest probability

This post sums it up really well. +1

I don't think TF2 will garner more than TDK at all.

Harry Potter in July, what I am thinking is the delay might do one of ywo things...

two years absence for Harry and the fans will go nuts at the box office

or two years absence will hurt the cnaces of making a good box office run and Warner Bros made a mistake and should have left it in November last year.

Ya TF2 doing more than TDK is a dream, Harry Potter is one I didn't consider though. So Batman 3, The Avengers, or the Harry Potter finale, but all of those are just maybes. It could take a long time to beat TDK, because beating TDK is just a few million shy of beating Titanic.
