Question

Since old school wedding crashers, and blades of glory aren't coming to Blu, i wanted to query comedies, and this just got my attention.

I always watch American Psycho with friends for major laughs. It is dark touch-in-cheek or whatever humor of course. The novel to my understanding was more serious and psychotic and the movie took a different approach on it.

Yeah, the novel was a darker, more serious look into the mind of a psychopath. But they already make enough of that type of film. I don't think it would have been that good if it was a literal adaptation.

Watch the scene where he kills Jared Leto set to Huey Lewis & the News and try not to laugh.

It's definitely genre satire (as in the scene where Christian Bale drops the chainsaw down the stairwell and 'very luckily' hits his victim) and there's some common-or-garden social satire (restaurant, meeting room scenes) but I think it's at best a borderline case even of black comedy. It just doesn't have the laughs-per-minute. In particular verbal humour is absent as against paradigm cases of black comedy. You wouldn't put this on the same shelf as Weekend at Bernie's or the "Bring out yer dead" scene in Holy Grail.

Good film though.

That book was one of the hardest i've ever read. Jesus it was monotone. And still i can't decide if i liked it or not!

Add to this the scene where he is running from the police and fires a few rounds from his handgun at their car and it explodes. Then he looks at the gun with a bewildered look on his face, as if to say "how did that even happen?"
