This film is causing all sorts of stir at Cannes this week.

Starring Willem Dafoe....looks interesting...I'll rent it.

People are hating it on RT

Von Trier, whose fiery press conference, which managed to both polarize and excite the Cannes Film Festival, set off a debate among many insiders about whether the film was releasable in America. IFC said the cut will be the same version screened in Cannes.

Arianna Bocco, Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Production for IFC Films negotiated the deal with Susan Wendt of TrustNordisk. The deal marks the third time IFC Films has worked with Lars Von Trier and TrustNordisk. The company previously distributed “Manderlay” and “The Boss of it All.”

Starring Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, the Dogme 95 director’s latest thriller follows the story of a grieving couple who retreat to their cabin in the woods, “Eden,” hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things evolve badly.

“Since it premiered at Cannes on Monday, we haven’t been able to stop talking or thinking about ‘Antichrist,” said IFC Entertainment president Joanthan Sehring in a statement. “It is a towering work of cinema by one its greatest directors. We are incredibly excited to bring this film to America and expect it to have a major impact on audiences not only in America but worldwide.”

I'll be honest, I can't wait to see this. It isn't just the controversy, it's what a few critics are saying about how powerful and disturbing the film is, and almost everyone agrees that its visuals are masterfully achieved...if horrifying at times.

I've loved Lars' prior efforts, and Antichrist looks like a winner in my book. I just can't relate to the negative comments about this movie; disturbing? bring it on!

Exactly! The more I keep hearing about how disturbing it is the more I want to see it!

For my money, Antichrist is a spectacular film (despite it's few flaws).

The best usual horror directors out there (Argento, Romero, Raimi etc...) must be scratching there heads right now, wondering how they are ever going to match this one in sheer unease, atmosphere and terror.

Be warned though - it's not your typical horror movie trying to get the standard reaction from the audience. Think something like, The Shining, Audition or Don't Look Now and you get a feeling where this is headed...

PS: the films prologue is stunning - without comparison the most beautiful and terrifying scene I've seen for years..

I want to see it because of how it's dividing people the way that Martyrs did.

Ebert said that people who like it really really like it. Those that hate it hate it immensely.

yes...I've heard that...I've heard the accompanying musical score during that part is haunting.
